Title: They still missed the mark
Kent Hughes

Someone once bluntly asked blind and deaf Helen Keller,

“Isn’t it terrible to be blind?”

To which she responded,

“Better to be blind and see with your heart, than to have two good eyes and see nothing.”

Story:
Have you ever that you where going in the right direction, come to find
I had a brother who was a professional truck driver
- Who was going on Vaction, his wife fell asleep
It wasnt until the wife woke up
- That they found out they where headed in the direction.
Genesis 27:1–4 (NIV)
1 When Isaac was old / and his eyes were so weak / that he could no longer see,/ he called for Esau his older son / and said to him, “My son.”
“Here I am,” he answered.
2 Isaac said, / “I am now an old man / and don’t know the day of my death.
3 Now then, / get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country / to hunt some wild game for me.
4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food / I like and bring it to me / to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.”
Point 1 He Lead in the wrong direction
Isaac really thought / he was going to pass away at this moment
Well in age,
He was weak
and could no longer see and Distracted by things that really didnt matter.
It calculated that Isaac’s was 137 years at this point........
Isaac favored and was drawn to Esau
Which of one of your children's is your favorite?
Just kidding don't answer that and if you have a favorite shame on you☺️.
It wasn’t the taste of the food that attracted Issac,
- but how he prized Esau as a mighty hunter / Talent
It seems Isaac rejected godly thinking and spiritual wisdom,
and instead thought only of food.
Issac and Esau were truly not seeking the Lords will but or their own personal Desire
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Seek 1st the kingdom of God- His presense; Word;
and his Righteousness
and all things will be added
Point 2 He was Distracted
Esau despised his birthright, and married pagan wives.
God says that intermarriage with pagans is spiritually dangerous
- It was far more likely that,
rather than the heathen spouses being won over to the worship of Israel's God,
they would influence their sons and daughters to worship idols.
2 Corinthians 6:14 “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”
Issac tells Esau flow
Genesis 27:4 (ESV)
and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.”
The bow; and lam
The pattern-
The repeditive distraction-
The visous cycle-
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over
Missing the mark- Who the Lord had called their family to be.....
- He was going to live 180. Isaac lived 43 more years.
- Issac got ahead of God
Say: he Got ahead of God!!!!
- How many of us Get ahold of God...
- How important is the will of God in your Lives.
Point 3 She Loved God
Flow : She hears; she plots; she executes; it wasnt h
Genesis 27:5–10 “Now Rebekah was listening / when Isaac spoke to his son Esau.
So when Esau went to the field / to hunt for game and bring it, / Rebekah said to her son Jacob,
“I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, / ‘Bring me game / and prepare for me delicious food, / that I may eat it and bless you before the Lord before I die.’
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice as I command you.
Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves. And you shall bring it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.””
Rebecca was of a godly descent....
A. Rebekah was a woman of great kindnes, courage, loyalt, faith....
B.
Genesis 24:18–19 (ESV)
She said, “Drink, my lord.” And she quickly let down her jar upon her hand and gave him a drink. When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
Abrham’s Servent comes to Rebekah and
she immediately Serves him and his animal's
hears the message
It took great Courage and faith in God
She still missed the mark.........
She plotted against her husband
with intention of stealing her oldest blessing
she had deception and favoritism
This led to Division, contempt, and grudges where built up
C.) Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Genesis 27:11–17 “But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother,
“Behold, my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.”
His mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.” So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved.
Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.
And the skins of the young goats she put on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. And she put the delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.”
What can we take from this message?
The ones called where distracted by things that didnt matt
Issac was distracted, and keep his son
The Lord was going to turn this for his good
