Introduction
There is something about a song. It blows my mind that someone can write a 3 minute song that resinates all around the world and stand the test of time. If you don’t believe me just ask Taylor Swift.
Guess the highest-grossing song of all time.
1. Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" is often cited as the best-selling single worldwide, with estimated sales of 50 million physical copies[2]. This record has stood for many decades.
2. In terms of digital sales, Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" has achieved remarkable success with 41.5 million digital copies sold[1].
3. For a combination of physical and digital sales, Elton John's 1997 version of "Candle in the Wind" has sold approximately 33 million copies[2].
4. In the United States, Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" was recently certified 18 times platinum by the RIAA, representing 18 million certified units sold through physical and digital formats[4].
Can you guess what the top-grossing Christian song would be?
"I Can Only Imagine" has sold 2.5 million copies, making it the best-selling Christian single ever.
Let’s talk about another timeless classic, Amazing Grace.

The Song of Victory

Exodus 15:1 ESV
1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
Rule of Bible Study: The Law of First Mention. When a word or concept first appears in the scripture, it defines that word or concept throughout the scripture. ( I will teach you all the rules of Bible Study in my Discipleship 2 Class starting in January)
So It’s important to note that this is the first mention of a song or singing in the Bible.

A Song of Salvation

Exodus 14:30–31 ESV
30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

A Song of Celebration

The more you understand the depth of your salvation, the more you will desire to sing.

A song is different than a poem.

It has structure.
It has rhythm.
It has music.
It has dance. (Music is made to move you. Have you ever noticed you don’t have to teach a child to dance? It just comes out of them.)
Psalm 150:1–6 ESV
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

A Song of Triumph over the Enemy

Exodus 15:1; …“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.

A Song to the Lord

A declaration of the strength of the Lord

Exodus 15:2 ESV
2 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

A declaration of our mighty God.

Exodus 15:3–12 ESV
3 The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name. 4 “Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. 5 The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. 6 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. 8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’ 10 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? 12 You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them.
Revelation 19:11–16 ESV
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

A declaration of His steadfast love.

Exodus 15:13–17 ESV
13 “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. 14 The peoples have heard; they tremble; pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O Lord, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased. 17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O Lord, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.

He has redeemed us from the world.

1 Peter 1:16–21 ESV
16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

He has guided us back to himself.

John 14:1–3 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

He brings us to his holy Sanctuary.

Revelation 7:9–10 ESV
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

A Song for All Eternity

Exodus 15:18 ESV
18 The Lord will reign forever and ever.”

Sung by the conquering saints of Israel

Exodus 15:19–21 ESV
19 For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”

Sung by the conquering saints around the throne.

Revelation 15:2–4 ESV
2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! 4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Sung by the conquering saints that gather today.

Our prayer response today is to join with those gathered around the throne to sing praises to our God.

Stand with me and let us declare this saying:

“Sing to the Lord for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he as thrown into the sea.”
“Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!
“The Lord will reign forever and ever.” x3
