God’s Sovereign Will
God’s Sovereign Will
God’s sovereign will is always done.
Daniel 4:35 “all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?””
See Isaiah 46:8-11...
Job 42:2 ““I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
God’s Moral Will
God’s Moral Will
God’s moral will is not always done.
1 Timothy 2:3–4 “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
1 Thessalonians 4:3 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
When God’s Will and Man’s Will Collide
When God’s Will and Man’s Will Collide
God can and does overrule the sinful actions of men to accomplish His good purposes.
Ephesians 1:11 “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,”
See Genesis 50:20 and Acts 2:22-24...
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Our Prayers and God’s Will
Our Prayers and God’s Will
We should desire God’s will to be done when we pray.
1 John 5:14–15 “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” (See John 14:13-14)
God works mightily through the prayers of His people to accomplish His will.
See James 5:16-18...
James 4:2–3 “You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.”
As It Is In Heaven
As It Is In Heaven
To pray for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven is to pray for His sovereign and moral will to be done with joy and gladness.
2 Peter 3:13 “But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
