Jesus Christ shows the compassion of God

2 Corinthians 1:3 NKJV

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

The compassion of Jesus Christ is the basis of Christian confidence

We are to give to the poor out of pity. Not to be seen and applauded, much less to get influence over them; but out of pure sympathy and compassion we must give them help.

Heb 4:14–16 The Greek word here translated “sympathise” has the sense of “be compassionate towards”.

In supporting the weak

Matthew 12:20 NKJV

A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory;

In healing the sick

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

In comforting the bereaved
