Law of Christ
Galatians 6:1–5 “1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load.”
John 15:12 “12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
Matthew 22:35–40 “35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
Galatians 5:14 “14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.””
Love God, Love People

1877 Commands in the NT
Humbles us
Leading us to be like Christ
Christ as explained in scripture
Give us Wisdom
Motivating us not to be Passive, but to be active in following these commands out of love
Saved by law abiding?
Saved by faith, and faith produces law abiding citizens of the Kingdom
Romans 3:20 “20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.”

Should we stop sinning if we are believers?

The difference between sinning and practicing sin?
Abiding in Sin, Slave to sin
John 8:31–34 “31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”
1 Timothy 4:15 “15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.”

How are we deceived?

Pride
Not looking like Christ
Earthly Wisdom
Passive in the commands, loving ourselves more

Why can’t we keep on sinning?

We practice righteousness because the “seed of God” lives in us.
We love God
We understand the sacrifice that was made for us
If we continue to practice sin, we do not know Christ

What do we do when we sin?

We should repent
We should have hope: Jesus came to defeat the works of the Devil
What if you do not feel the weight of your sin?
Repent and Believe
