INTRO:
HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR VBS DECORATORS
1. Biblical overview of the HS (Gen. - Rev.)
2. Work of the HS (John 16:5-15)
3. Will Jones (The Baptism of the HS)
4. Biblical Types of Prayer in the HS (Tongues)
5. Fellowship of the HS (Friendship w God)
I tried to find some secular studies on human fellowship and struggled.
They immediately related it to religion and became resistant in their articles.
I found humanist combating the idea of purpose found in a creator.
They are prideful enough to think, “I can do it on my own.”
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
Hebrews 10:23-25
MESSAGE:
Tell your neighbor… “God is a personal and relational God!” (all three persons of the Godhead)
8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.
Adam and Eve were in the presence of God on a daily basis in the Garden.
After the fall we still see God speaking and fellowshipping with humanity
Enoch lived in close fellowship with God
22 After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.
23 Enoch lived 365 years,
24 walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.
Abraham was a friend of God
23 And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God.
God the Father is a personal Father
Jesus dwelt with man for 33 years on this planet. Jesus is a personal friend and Savior.
Now we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us and among us, giving us constant access to the presence of the God.
Tell your neighbor… “God is a personal and relational God!” (all three persons of the Godhead)
1. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A PERSON OF THE GODHEAD, THEREFORE DESIRING FELLOWSHIP WITH US
(He, Him, Himself is referenced 19 times John 14-16)
2 Corinthians 13:14 (NLT)
14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you ALL.
ALL is YOU!
The Holy Spirit is not inconvenienced by you!
Fellowship - friendly association, especially with people who share one's interest
HOW DO WE ATTAIN THIS FELLOWSHIP?
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)
It Starts with Salvation. God introduces us to the Holy Spirit
19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,
20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
You are the Temple, the dwelling place
The Holy Spirit’s Mailing Address Is “Your Location”
ILLUSTRATION:
A painting doesn’t cost much to paint, supplies etc.
The paintings value is based on the price a buyer is willing to pay to acquire it.
Van Gogh
ILLUSTRATION:
You live with your spouse who you are one with BUT you can have an impaired and decisive relationship.
You can make them mad
You can hurt their feelings
You can be messy
20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.
21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
A tomb is decorated on the outside and full of dead bones on the inside.
A temple is beautiful on the outside and full of the Spirit of God on the inside.
The new temple is portable; because it’s you as a BELIEVER!
Look at your neighbor and say, “I am a Temple, not a Tomb.”
8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
Come Close to God and he will come close to you.
This is action required on our part to have fellowship at a different level.
The sad thing is, we often sing songs that ask for his presence, that declare our surrendering to him, that state all we need is him. But we don't carry out those words in action by spending time in his presence or taking the steps to prove that by drawing close to him.
It must be developed and you must pursue Him first
Do you “know” JESUS or do you “KNOW” Jesus
KNOW the president or heard about him
“They said they have been with Jesus.”
ILLUSTRATION:
I have met Chuck Norris on 2 different occasions. So, I “know” him…BUT I don’t really “KNOW” him. I haven’t spent enough time with him.
ILLUSTRATION:
When we spend some serious time out in the sun, it’s pretty obvious. People can see it all over our face. “You got some sun, didn’t you?”
Well today, we’ll see when we spend some time with the Son, it may be just as obvious. People will wonder what’s different about us.
Fellowship By Retreating without distractions
(we often need to leave to pray…Jesus did, prayer mountain in Korea) remember you are human, God is God, (don’t calculate or argue concerning the cost of the dream God gives you, (it will silence the Holy Spirit if you do) invest seed money and believe for miracle) (Church should change world through social media and newspaper…)
23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.
Firstfruits, just as the first fruits of harvest are a pledge of the full crop to come, the holy Spirit is the pledge of our full adoption as God's children when our bodies are redeemed. We groan because although our souls are saved, our bodies are still subject to pain and sin, however we look forward with hope to our resurrection bodies, which will be free from physical frailty and indwelling sin.
Jesus is praying for us in heaven and preparing a place for us so we can join Him and the Father after this life on earth.
We will have perfect fellowship in heaven. No Distractions, No Temptations, No Pain, No Destruction
OVERVIEW:
The Holy Spirit lives in us after receiving Christ
The Holy Spirit desires that we come close to Him and He will come close to us.
The Holy Spirit is given as a foretaste of what is to come.
ADDITIONALLY…
2. WE HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT BY GROWING IN OUR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD
Scripture from Genesis - Revelation usher in His presence and revelation of God.
3. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN YOU SHARE YOUR FAITH WITH OTHERS
Talk about Him and He will show up. He will manifest and bring glory to God
Talk about things that interest God and the Holy Spirit will draw into the discussion.
Anointing
4. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH VISIONS AND DREAMS
17 ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
