Ishtar continued
We live to know Him and make Him known:
We want you to have one on one and daily encounters with God
Spending time with God daily should be our number one goal every day
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
We have to seek
Others cannot seek for you
We make Him known
Someone’s eternity is attached to you
5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Sexual sin:
Will blind you
Samson
Lust
Pornography
adultery
fornication
homosexuality
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Now he’s really hammering the point home:
You want these people to judge you?
You want to get wisdom from people practicing all this?
This is who you want speaking into your life?
This gives us a peak behind the curtain at human nature when it’s left to it’s own desires
Where we had escaped for some time as a nation but somewhere took a back seat to culture and we’re seeing a resurgence again
The unrighteous is the preface to this text: that the character not the act is what he’s pointing out and you’ll see why
The naughty list:
Neither fornicators: Male prostitutes, again among gentiles, the thought of chastity was practically unknown,
Idolaters: the greatest building in Corinth was the Temple of Aphrodite (you can still see the pillars today), the goddess of love, where idolatry and immorality flourished side by side
a bit of a sneak peak in what has become of some affirming churches today
I love this quote “Idolatry is a grim example of what happens when we try and make religion easier. An idol did not begin by being a god; it began by being a symbol of god……but very soon, people began to worship not the god behind the idol but worship the idol itself”
It’s a warning that we worship the true God rather than the symbol behind Him
Ministry can become an idol
Worship can become and idol
Evangelism can become the idol
If the Focus on God is lost
The works become the idol
Adulterer: any sex or acts of sex outside the sanction of the marriage union
Homosexuals: in the amplified and KJV is effeminate. Having qualities or characteristics more often associated with women than men. 2. Characterized by weakness and excessive refinement.” The Latin word from which we obtain “effeminate” is “EFFEMINARE,” and it means “make feminine.”
this word in the greek is mal-a-koss: or a catamite
in this context, is a male taking the female role in a sexual relationship with another male.
Scripture plainly states such conduct as being against nature (Romans 1:26-27).
There’s an argument among communities that when this and verses like it in the new testament Paul is referring to pedophilia, which he is but also the the idea of becoming effeminate and taking on the role of a female in a male to male relationship
These were very common relationships between philosophers and leaders
very bisexual fluid world they lived in
One of Platos greatest of all literary works was based on his own sexual encounters with boys
Some groups want to argue that homosexuality is not mentioned in the new testament
But those people have clearly not read Romans 1
Sodomites- you get the idea
Nor thieves:
Theft was a big deal in ancient times
Houses were easy to break into
public baths and public gyms were the target of thieves
To show how serious the problem was- there were three thefts punishable by death
one was theft to the value of about two months work
two was theft from baths or gymnasiums
Three was theft at night
Nor covetous:
The greeks defined it as:
“The spirit which is always reaching after more and grabbing that to which it has no right”
if it’s something you don’t have the right to, you’ll do the wrong things to achieve it
Nor drunkards:
drinking in excess and out of control
Letting it rule you
Having to have it
Revilers:
one who assails or uses abusive language
Extortionists:
Someone who is aggressively greedy
No people operating within the character of all those things will inherit the Kingdom of God
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Paul placed an emphasis on the word “were.”
He was contrasting their previous condition with their current righteous position in Christ
Praise God!
You can literally see all these acts taking place within the church throughout all the letters of Corinthians
The sins of Christians don’t make them sinners any more than the righteous acts of sinners make them righteous
Sin is a very deadly thing that even Christians should avoid at all costs, but it does not determine our standing with the Lord
Those who are born again are not “in” the flesh even though they may walk “after” the flesh
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
God is asking you to repent and turn away today
A prison on you mind:
God showed my like a bird cage around your mind
You think you are living life
But the enemy has put a cage on you
He wants to give you freedom
We must be born again:
1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
All of this is normal to un renewed spirit
God wants to change everything about you
It starts with a reborn spirit
Adoption into His family
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Alter Call:
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Sinners Prayer:
"God, I know that I am a sinner.
I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin.
I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness.
I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
