Spiritual Steps of Faith
Step #1 = Not Seeing - Not Believing
Step #2 = Seeing - Not Believing
Step #3 = Seeing - Believing
Step #4 = Not Seeing - Believing
Steps of Faith Fleshed Out
The nobleman began his faith journey in a crisis of faith (not seeing and not believing) (v. 46)
The nobleman’s crisis of faith was countered with the half-hearted faith (seeing but not believing) of the crowds around him (vv. 47-48)
The nobleman believed enough in Jesus’ power to heal, that he begged Jesus to heal his son, but this countered by the crowds lack of faith. Faith is not seeing and then believing. Faith is defined as something greater than that. The nobleman’s faith was not complete either. The nobleman felt that for Jesus to heal, he had to be present with his son, he went to Him and began asking Him to come down and heal his son. Often this is where we fail. We only believe that God can heal or perform a miracle if it happens right then. If we can only see it happen. However, Jesus can heal, mend, and perform miracles even when we do not see Him at work. This is truly what faith is.
Hebrews 11:1 NASB 2020
1 Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.
The nobleman’s crisis of faith became a confident faith (not seeing and believing )(vv. 49-51)
The nobleman’s confident faith became a contagious faith (vv. 52-53)
