VBS 2024 Gospel

This evening I get the to teach the lesson
The point for tonight's lesson is
Everyone Needs Jesus
Mark 10:17 NASB95
17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
What a great question
Has anyone every asked that question
How do we inherit eternal life
How do we get eternal life
How are we saved?
What a great question
Is is something we can earn, or pay for
Can you really give enough to the church to inherit eternal life
Can you be good enough to earn eternal life
Who believes you are good enough to get into heaven?
Well you are not
Mark 10:18–19 NASB95
18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 “You know the commandments, ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’ ”
Jesus answers his question with another question
Why do you call me good
We need to understand that simply by following a list a rules
What are the 10 commandments
No other Gods before me
No idols
Do not take the Lords Name in vain
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Honor your father and mother
Not murder
Not commit adultery
Not steal
No lying
Not coveting
Do you think you could keep these?
Do you think keeping these would save you?
Jesus gives this answer to the man to follow the law because that only points to showing you can’t be good enough to get into heaven
Let me be clear you cannot be good to get into heaven
Mark 10:20–22 NASB95
20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
This man being a good Jew
Of course I have kept the law, according to the law
Jesus then takes it from the physical and makes it a matter of the heart
That is exactly what Jesus does
He takes the physical and makes it a matter of the heart
Where is your heart
So BRODI was asked could he give up everything to follow Christ
The question is to you
Could you give up everything to follow after Christ
Would you give up everything to follow Christ
So what happens if you are a super duper good kid and are keeping all the rules
If keeping the rules cant save you then what can and the disciples ask these questions
Mark 10:23–25 NASB95
23 And Jesus, looking around, said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Jesus goes on to explain how hard or virtually impossible it is for you to be saved
In fact it is so hard Jesus goes on
It is just as hard as a camel to get through the eye of a needle
Jesus is either taking about a real camel and a real needle
Or He is talking about the needle which is a small door within the gate
Jesus is saying that for a camel to go through that door it would have to off load everything and essentially strip everything off get on its knees and go through the door
See the camel had to give up or get ride of everything and go through the door
Just like if you want to be saved you need to give up everything
You need to give up living for your own wants and desires
That is the only way to salvation, through Christ
Jesus shares all this to say it is impossible for you on your own to get saved
Wether you are rich or poor or have it all together or are a complete mess
Jesus is forever one
And He says just that
Mark 10:26–27 NASB95
26 They were even more astonished and said to Him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
They were shocked when He said it would be heard for a rich man who had everything to get saved how could us poor people get saved
If someone who is following the law and has everything can’t get saved then how can I get saved
It is only through Jesus
The Bible is true like we learned the first night
The Bible says
Acts 4:12 NASB95
12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
That is only through Jesus that you can be saved
This evening you need to understand that Jesus is for everyone
Jesus came to save everyone
How to come to accept what Jesus did on the cross is to repent of your sin
Turn from your sin
Run to Jesus
Start reading your Bible, start praying, start doing what Gods word says
Believe in Jesus
Believe Jesus is the son of God
Believe that Jesus was raised from dead
Mark 1:15 NASB95
15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
To accept what Jesus did for you on the cross is to repent of your sin and trust in Jesus
So this evening we are going to give you and opportunity to make that decision to accept what Jesus has done for you
Maybe you want to speak with someone tonight
We will ask you all to close your eyes and bow your head
If you are here tonight and do not have a personal relationship with Jesus and want to repent from your sin and trust in Jesus would you raise your hand
An adult with come and high 5 you and you can go off to the back and speak with them
Or maybe you want to just want to talk with someone about salvation or something else
Would you also raise your hand and they will come and talk with you
For the rest of you with your eyes still closed and your head still bowed
We are going to pray and then you will be quietly dismissed with your leader
