Have you ever wanted something so bad, that you would have done anything to get it?

Karen and I got the Ford Expedition
I mean what is that for you, that one thing
You google search it
you talk about it
look for it
it consumes you
See Indiana Jones in the beginning of The movie “The Last Crusade” became consumed with something he wanted.
Clip 1 Coronado cross
So here is 2 men that had there own obsessions
Indiana Jones thought nothing but to get that cross back
Where Jones sr. was thinking of nothing but the Holy Gail
Both of these things were taking them away from their larger calling, of a dad and a sane person
So lets go back to the question, what is that something in your life?
car
money
house
Let’s go deeper here
acceptance
respect
power
ect.
When we let things of the world make it so our focus comes away from God, we are heading down the wrong path.
Romans 12:2 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
We are called to look to God, not the things we think we need.
Colossians 3:2 NIV
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
We we try so hard to gain that thing that is consuming us, we are pulled farther away from God.
So much so that many times our faith is second to that thing that consumes our everyday thoughts
When we become so consumed by that thing everything else takes a hit in our lives including our faith Just like Indiana Jones’ father
Clip 2 you were never there
Matthew 13:44–46 NIV
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
When we look at our faith we should be looking at it like it truly is THE GREATEST TREASURE EVER. This is worth more than anything else.
God has literally handed us a treasure that we could never get on our own, something so valuable that His son had to die for it.
Think of it like this
I you were to find 1 million bucks, and then a day later you found out that you were sick and the only cure cost a million bucks, would you not give it up so that you would liive??
The 2 parables are literally saying this, THEY SoLD everything to get it
We so often treat our faith like we went and bought it at Wal-Mart in the discount aisle.
Matthew 22:35–38 NIV
One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
We have the greatest treasure ever and yet we hold on to these other “treasures” like they are worth more then what Christ has given us.
Clip 3, letting go
The Grail was so important to Elsa that she lost her life, and Indy almost did as well, but then he saw what was really important at the last second and was saved.
For us what are we holding on to that is going to cause us to fall and lose everything?
what are we so desperately seeking after that is pulling us away form God?
it does not have to be an item
laziness
we rather do things the easy way
our own lifestyle
We want to do things our way
Bitterness
it is a sort of control
unforegiveness
We hold on because of the hurt
Control
We have to be in control because we think we know better, or we do not trust
Whatever it is , it is time to let it go before you fall into a bottomless pit and lose everything that God has given us.

How Can We Change?

Today I’m going to keep it easy,

Do the things Jesus does

Jesus fled comfort, embraced humility, avoided fame, serve and loved unconditionally.

When the people that he was closet to betrayed Him, he went and show Love, forgiveness, and compassion, He even cooked them some breakfast
He loved those who were unloved, helped them come to have faith. serve them.
Russel Brand, has been a Christian for 3 months and he was not a model of morality prior, but now he gets it,

Matthew 20:28 NIV
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Life Church wrote this about this very thing,
He ate with cheating tax collectors, grumpy religious leaders, and prostitutes. He hugged people no one would touch, and He healed people of all kinds of pain and sickness. He was neither self-deprecating nor self-aggrandizing. Jesus knew who He was, and He lived from the depths of a soul that was settled and centered on love.
It’s time to stop reaching for that grail in your life that is pulling you away, and grab the hand of Jesus and let Him do a work in you that will bring to you the greatest treasure you can ever have
Communion
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 NIV
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
