Jonah 1:17 ESV
And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
The book of Jonah is about opposites.
Read 2 Kings 14:23-25. Which king was Jonah was a prophet for? ___
Jeroboam II - a bad king.
Jonah runs away from God’s command to preach to Nineveh. (Jonah 1:1-4)
Jonah is asleep during a storm on the sea.
Jonah suggests to the sailors to kill him to stop the storm.
Jonah prays from the belly of the fish and is vomited up on the dry ground.
Jonah goes to Nineveh to preach, but not well, and the Ninevites repent.
Jonah is angry with God because God shows mercy to his enemies.
Jonah asks God to kill him because he is angry.
God reminds Jonah that he allowed to have mercy on whom he chooses, even his enemies.
