This last week we had our VBS Break Rock Beach
Our theme was on a beach as you can tell
Our verse was very very awesome
Romans 12:2 NASB95
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
We learned it in Kindergarten Class
Learn about God
Choose to obey Him
Romans 12, 2.
How we are to not to be conformed to this worlds way of thinking
Each night they looked at
different ways to not be conformed to this world
Or different truths to not be conformed to this world
We know this world is after our hearts and minds
We know the world desires to take our kids
This week your kids were told truth each and every night
From Pre-k through in coming 6th graders
They were given rock nuggets of truth to begin to build on the foundation of Christ
They were told Christ is the only way through salvation even though the world will tell you there are many different ways
Even though the world will say God is a loving God surely He has made many different ways
The World will say There is no different between Allah or God
That Allah is the arabic word for God so there is no difference
We know that is not true
This week we shared and taught truth
This week it is worth noting we at Maranatha Baptist Fellowship I believe have seen the beginning of the passing the torch or the beginning of the next generation step up
We did not have a youth class because we had so many youth step up to lead or co teach a class, or lead an activity
To help out in a class and then to help around with the different activities
Well done
We will highlight each day for you this morning
Day 1
On Day 1 we had a great time during day 1 we looked at how Truth comes from God
That satan tries to deceive us
We looked at an account of the first deception
See God had created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden
After He created Adam He gave him strict instructions
Genesis 2:16–17 NASB95
16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
God had told Adam you can eat from any tree except from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
God told Adam you are free to eat from any tree except this one
God had given them specific instructions
But Satan takes the truth of God and twists it
Genesis 3:1 NASB95
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
Satan asked a different question
Did God really say you can’t eat from any tree
See that is now what God said
and thus the deception happens
Do you understand how Satan twisted the question and what God really said
And church that is the deception that happens
Satan will take a piece of scripture and change a word hear or there
Do you understand how important it is to know Truth
Gods Word is true and it is so very very important to knowing God to being transformed that we spend time reading Gods Word
So that we are not deceived like Adam and Eve were
Because we know when we are deceived there are consequences
Church Day 1 was all about how Truth comes from God
Day 2
On Day 2 of VBS we had a very very interesting snack night
The main point for Day 2 was Gods Plan is Best
We looked at the story of Daniel and His Friends
Gods Chosen people the Jews had begun to rebel from God
So God sent the Babylonians and King Nebuchadnezzar to take the chosen people the Jews captive
But remember they were still the chosen people
They still had laws and rules to follow to stay righteous with God
Some of those rules or law dealt with food
Leviticus 11:7 NASB95
7 and the pig, for though it divides the hoof, thus making a split hoof, it does not chew cud, it is unclean to you.
Church the Jewish people according to the Old Testament law could not eat bacon
The Jews that were taken captive were marched to the capital of Babylon and they were divided
King Nebuchadnezzar only wanted the best and brightest to serve in his court
Some of those included Daniel and His friends
Daniel 1:3–5 NASB95
3 Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his officials, to bring in some of the sons of Israel, including some of the royal family and of the nobles, 4 youths in whom was no defect, who were good-looking, showing intelligence in every branch of wisdom, endowed with understanding and discerning knowledge, and who had ability for serving in the king’s court; and he ordered him to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. 5 The king appointed for them a daily ration from the king’s choice food and from the wine which he drank, and appointed that they should be educated three years, at the end of which they were to enter the king’s personal service.
They were selected to be in the Kings Court Training group
They would be taught and raised to work within the Kings Court
Part of that meant they would be given some of the Kings food
And since they were not Jewish some of that could have been some bacon
But the Jewish people who were in the training group could not eat the bacon
So Daniel and His friends had a choice to make
To Obey God or to Disobey God
Daniel 1:8 NASB95
8 But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.
Daniel chose to Obey God
Praise the Lord
Can you imagine how difficult that might have been especially if there was bacon
To refuse to eat that and obey God
But He did because He knew Gods Plan is always Best
And church it truly is because God desires the best for us, not our best but His best
Church Day 2 was all about God’s plan is best
Then each year at VBS we present the Gospel and give those kids an opportunity to respond to the Gospel Message
You can imagine how difficult that may be because some of you adults struggle to walk down the front and make a decision or just pray
Anyways
Day 3 was our Gospel presentation
We looked at the account of the rich young ruler coming to Jesus
He asked a question
Mark 10:17 NASB95
17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
You cannot
Simply put you cannot earn it you can’t buy it you cant be good enough
We even looked at the 10 commandments
And from a physical stand point they could obey the one about murder
But when we did just as Jesus did and made it a matter of the heart
No one could keep the law
which means that you cannot be good enough to get salvation
Mark 10:23–25 NASB95
23 And Jesus, looking around, said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Jesus explains how hard it is to be saved
You cannot do it on your own
He shares this parable
There are 2 thoughts on the camel and the eye of the needle
The first thought is Jesus is talking about a real needle and a real camel
That camel is not going through the eye of that needle
That nothing you can do will save you
The second thought is maybe the small door within the city gate that was used after the gate was closed for the day
The only way a camel would get into the city gate
Would be to get on their knees and strip everything off
Leave all the baggage and then humble yourself and come into the city
Come into the safety and rest
See everyone needs Jesus
To come to Jesus you need to repent of your sin and Trust Jesus
We gave those kids an opportunity to respond to the invitation to leave your baggage and be with Jesus
For the adults this morning
Know this about coming to salvation through a personal relationship with Jesus
You cannot stay the same and be changed by Jesus
You cannot remain in the same old lifestyles or the same old sin
To be Born again is just that
To be made new in Christ to be Born again through Christ
Mark 10:26–27 NASB95
26 They were even more astonished and said to Him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
With man it won’t happen but with Jesus it is possible to be saved from the sin in your life
Church Day 3 was all about Everyone Needs Jesus
Day 4 was a great follow up day to the Gospel Presentation
The point for day 4 was Jesus is the only way
We looked at one of the authors of the Gospels
John, he didn’t just take someone elses word about the teachings of Jesus
John didn’t go and interview others and then write down what they said about Jesus
John was there and walked and talked with Jesus
John was there when Jesus taught and said the things that we talk about today
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
John was there when Jesus said that
Church when we talk about the truth of Christ
This is it
There is no one else who can save
There is no other name for salvation
Allah and God are not the same
Acts 4:12 NASB95
12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
Church that is the truth
That yes everyone needs Jesus and that Jesus is the only way to be saved
It is through a personal relationship with Christ that you are saved
To begin a personal relationship with Jesus you need to repent from your sin
to not just feel bad you sin but to stop it, to flee from it
to remove yourself from that sinful situations and run to Jesus
To believe that Jesus is the son of God
To believe that God raised Him from the dead
To believe that Jesus is who he is says he is that he has done and will do what he says he will do
Church salvation is more than just fire insurance but it is life
Jesus is in the business of taking the old broken lost life you have and giving you new, fresh, found life in this world
Church day 4 was all about Jesus is the only way
Day 5
Then we come to the last day of VBS
Everyone I bet was ready for a nap
The point for day 5 was to Speak Truth in Love
And church sometimes that can be difficult
But as believers in Jesus we are called to share the love of Christ not just when it is easy but when people are not being very nice
We looked at Paul
Before Paul was Paul he was Saul and he was not a very nice
In face Paul when he was Saul he was persecuting Christians
Then Saul encountered the Living God
And he was he forever changed
He became Paul
Paul would go around and teach and preach about Jesus
So much that people would hate him
They arrested him, stoned him
He would go around and where he went the towns would rise up againt him and against other Christians
Church it is in that moment that we as believers are to speak truth in love
Ephesians 4:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love,
Church this is not being a doormat for people
We are not to sit idely by while people act a fool
We are coming into a time when it is all about elephants and donkeys
And we currently live in a day and age when if you are an elephant the donkey thinks you hate him and vice versa
When as believers in Jesus we are to called to love them and I would add pray for them
No it is our opportunity to share with them they are living in sin and are lost and in need of Jesus
There are tactful and loving ways to share that with people and that is what Paul calls us to do
Because of Christ
Ephesians 4:14–15 NASB95
14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
Because of Christ we are no longer tossed and deceived
Because of Christ we can share that with others we come into contact with
Because of Christ we can share the love of Christ with others no matter how they treat us
Because they should see Christ and not us
Church Day 5 was all about Speaking truth in Love
As you can see these 5 days we have shared some truths to begin to build on the foundation of Christ
Or maybe we shared with you some steps leading you to Christ
Remember that Truth comes from God, Gods plan is best, Everyone Needs Jesus, Jesus is the only way, and that we are to speak truth in love
All these keep us from being tossed by the ways of this world
These help transform us by renewing our mind each and everyday when we know these truths we learned this week
When we are transformed we are able to be obedient to the perfect will of God
and church that is amazing
So as we come to a close this morning
We are going to open our alter
If you want to begin a relationship with Jesus this morning
or have questions about beginning a relationship with Jesus there will be someone who you can speak with down at the front
Or maybe you want to spend sometime in prayer
The altar is open
