COUNTING ON GOD:
I'm in a fight not physical
And I'm in a war, but not with this world
You are the light that's beautiful
And I want more, I want all that's Your's
PRECHORUS:
Joy unspeakable that won't go away
And just enough strength to live for today
So I never have to worry what tomorrow will bring
'Cause my faith is on solid rock, I am counting on God
CHORUS:
I am counting on, I am counting on God
I am counting on, I am counting on God
I am counting on, I am counting on God
I am counting on, I am counting on God
BRIDGE: x3
And the miracle of Christ in me
Is the mystery that sets me free
I'm nothing like I used to be
Just open up your eyes, you'll see
Joy unspeakable that won't go away
And just enough strength to live for today
So I never have to worry what tomorrow will bring
'Cause my faith is on solid rock, I am counting on God
I am counting on, I am counting on God
SHARED FAITH
SONG: REST ON US
So come down Spirit when You
move
You make my heart pound when
You fill the room
You're here and I know
You are moving, I'm here
and I know You will fill me
(repeat)
Holy Spirit, come rest on us,
You're all we want, You're
all we want. (repeat )
GENEROSITY
SONG: JESUS SWEETEST NAME I KNOW: Verse 1 There's within my heart a melody Jesus whispers sweet and low, Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still In all of life's ebb and flow. Chorus Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Sweetest Name I know Fills my every longing Keeps me singing as I go. Verse 2 All my life was wrecked by sin and strife Discord filled my heart with pain Jesus swept across the broken strings Stirred the slumb'ring chords again Verse 3 Feasting on the riches of His grace Resting 'neath His shelt'ring wing Always looking on His smiling face That is why I shout and sing
Chorus Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Sweetest Name I know Fills my every longing Keeps me singing as I go. Verse 4 Tho' sometimes He leads thro' waters deep Trials fall across the way Tho' sometimes the path seems rough and steep See His footprints all the way Verse 5 Soon He's coming back to welcome me Far beyond the starry sky I shall wing my flight to worlds unknown I shall reign with Him on high
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Sweetest Name I know Fills my every longing Keeps me singing as I go.
Remember in Chapter One we see Peter tell us why he writes:
SHARED FAITH
2 Peter 1:1 NLT
This letter is from Simon* Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness* of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.
GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES
2 Peter 1:4 NLT
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
SUPPLEMENT YOUR FAITH 2 Peter 1:5
2 Peter 1:5 (NLT)
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,
Remember in Chapter Two we see Peter give two warnings:
to be aware of corrupt preachers.
to be aware of distorted theology.
2 Peter 2:1 NLT
But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves.
Chapter 3: Paul wants to go past opposing the Apostasy being preached in circles in the Church…
Yes, these lying statements create doubt in the hearts of believers. So, chapter 3 goes deeper— He wants to:
Stimulate our thinking
Refresh our memories
2 Peter 3:1 NLT
This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.
Why do we need that?
2 Peter 3:2–3 (NLT)
I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.
Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.
Read the Text
Vs. 15) BE PATIENT
1 Timothy 2:3–4 NLT
This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
Vs. 17) BE FAITHFUL
James 1:5–6 NLT
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
NEXT WEEK: LITTLE JOHN
1 John 1:4–5 (NLT): We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.
