Intro: Today, we look at a some scripture that can change our lives from the Book of James, What we call a book is really a letter full of useful advice for daily life. James starts with a very difficult challenge: to think of it as pure joy when we are going through hard times. How can we be happy when bad things happen? Even though it might not make sense, James shows us that our problems are chances to grow. Let's look at seven important points that show how we can accept our problems and grow from them.
This letter is an invitation to real, useful Christianity. Just Like The Book Of Proverbs, James is known for taking a simple, direct approach to faith. This book doesn't hold back and gets to the heart of what it means to live out our faith in real, everyday ways.
James was referred to As "James the Just," James was a leader in the early church in Jerusalem. Even though he wasn't sure about Jesus' teaching at first, he became an important part of the early church and a devoted follower of Jesus after the resurrection. His letter is sent to "twelve tribes scattered among the nations," which shows that it is meant for a large group of people and is relevant to everyone.
James wrote this to support and push Christ followers, Christians, Believers to live out their faith even when they face problems and temptations. He says that real faith leads to actions—faith that doesn't lead to actions is dead. This letter talks about many things that are still important today, just like they were in the first century: getting through hard times, finding wisdom, controlling your tongue, being humble, and praying with faith.
As we share the scripture I believe you and I will learn how to turn our beliefs into deeds that show God's love! James tells us that our faith should show in the way we live, our faith should in the way we treat others, and our faith should show in the way we deal with problems in life.
James 1:2-3

1 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
Then James says in verse 3
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
The concept of testing our faith can be likened to the refining process of precious metals. Our faith is tried and grown when we go through hard times, just like gold is cleaned by fire. We are not being broken by these tests; instead, they are supposed to strengthen us and make us more persistent, which is a key part of spiritual growth and endurance.
Ya’ll we know these Trials test our faith! These problems and issues reveal our faith These problems will test the strength and resilience of our faith. Now, This testing is essential for developing perseverance! Perseverance is the ability to endure and remain steadfast under pressure.
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.
4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
Putting our faith to the test is an important part of growing spiritually. We learn to be persistent by going through and beating different challenges. This is important for developing a strong and mature faith. We grow in our trust of God and learn to depend on His strength and knowledge through these things.
By seeing these hard times as chances to grow, we can see God's hand at work in our lives, making our faith stronger and giving us the patience we need for a mature and successful walk as Christ followers:
In the 4th verse , James is really saying - let this thing call Perseverance finish the work .
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Perseverance means sticking with something even if it gets hard or takes a long time to finish. the text stresses how important it is to let patience do its job in us. This means sticking with things through hard times and not letting up - why? so that we can grow up in our faith and in that God will provide everything we need. This growth means that a Christ followers character is well-rounded and fully formed, just like Jesus.
36 You need endurance so that after you have done what God wants you to do, you can receive what he has promised.
When we let persistence or endurance do its work in us, we become spiritually mature and whole. It means sticking with it through hard times, staying true, and believing in God's plan and timing. This persistence forms our character and faith, getting us ready for bigger things in God's plan.
When you and I can’t understand , why we are going through what we are going through and feel ready to give up James says - before you give up,
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
5 If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them.
The bible tells us In James 1:2–4, to find joy in trials because they make us stronger in our faith and teach us to keep going even when things get hard. The end goal of all this hard work is to make us spiritually mature or grown and complete, with nothing missing.
But When you're going through trials, it’s hard to figure out why they're happening or how to handle them properly. This is where James 1:5 comes in. It tells us that we can ask God to give us knowledge.
We have to use God’s Wisdom as our Source of Strength:
To persevere or to endure anything we need some guidance - some direction: It's not enough to just stick it out through hard times; We need some direction, we need a plan, we need information to make smart choices, we need to know God's plan, and this is necessary to keep our faith.
When we ask God, The knowledge that comes from Jesus, via the Holy Spirit helps us deal with these problems well.
When we get wisdom from God, it gives us a new perspective, it gives us God’s perspective, of our problems.
It helps us look past the pain or trouble we're going through right now and see how these tests are forming our faith and character.
Lean In
James recognizes that we may not feel good enough or have the information we need to face our trials. But , He reassures us that it is okay to ask for help and that God is ready to give it to us by telling us to ask him for wisdom.
The beauty is that God gives knowledge freely and doesn't look for fault. This means we can talk to God with faith, knowing that He will help us through our problems.
Get Closer
Trials teach us to be persistent! You have a test - then you have a testimony! Your Endurance get’s stronger, you are more patient, your faith grows! This is not just talk - this is real! Ask anyone who trusted God for a way out - you can’t convince them otherwise that God won’t do it! That’s why we say - Won’t he do it, because he has done it for us so many times - that we are not shocked when somebody else experiences ‘Won't he Do It”
When we go to God and receive his knowledge and apply it , then we move into the realm of wisdom! Wisdom helps us stay on the right path, make smart choices, and keep a good mood even when things get hard.
