5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
Obedience is key
God put obedience over everything else
15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
The danger of delayed obedience is Death
WE don’t have the luxury of delayed obedience.
We learn this lesson from the Garden of Eden
3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
How does Satan ultimately get you to stray? Disobedience. Did God really say? -Does he really have your best interest in heart? Does God truly desire what’s best for you?
WE never take large steps away from Christ at the beginning. It’s always small baby steps. Small points of disobedience.
Simplicity = Singleness, Sincierity (not self- seeking) Generously (Copious Bestowal), Bountifulness, Liberality
Copious= Largeness Bestowal= presenting of gift
It’s not saying that the things of God are simple, but rather that they are single minded, sincere, and generous.
Single minded
You can’t draw from two wells at the same time.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
How do you draw closer to God? do the two step
Cleanse your hands—This gives a visual picture of forgiveness for the things we do. HAnds represent the work we do. By the work of GOd’s hands we are saved.
2. Purify your hearts—How—clear your vision and become single minded. Remove everything else from your focus except for that which brings you closer to God.
Why because
James 1:8 (ESV)
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
In Both cases the word double minded literally means to be duel-spirited.
Lazer focus in the way to protect your mind. When you’re mind wonders you are prone to trouble.
The idea of all success is to be focused
The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus
We need to put as much time in managing our focus as we do to managing our time.
