Games of Life —> Video Games
Open World / choose your own adventure
There is a main plot / no matter who you choose to be it’s the same end goal
But the game can be played an infinite number of ways
Disciples —> Varied Backgrounds
One of them was Peter
As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen.
And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.”
And immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Fish for people —> Amass a following like tik tok
Now Peter didn’t stop knowing how to fish, he just took on a new purpose.
Have you ever switched your focus? Gone from one hobby to the next? You don’t forget the old one, you just start doing something else.
Just like Jesus called Peter to follow him, we are all called to follow Jesus.
We don’t stop being who we are, we just focus our efforts and gifts on Jesus’s mission in the world.
This week’s journey — God makes us diverse and unique but the world gives us a bad identity and sin gives us a bad identity.
But God finds us and reminds us of our true identity. And God reminds us that we have been called to be peace-makers.
Peace makers are people who see the broken identities that others have taken on, or the broken identities that people are forcing onto others.
Racism, addiction, bullying, whatever other injustice
Peacemakers are people who go into those spaces and heal broken hearted people and overturn injustice by reminding everyone of their God given Identity.
But it’s not always easy to be a peace-maker and follower of Jesus.
Peter’s story is one of my favorite stories because I identify so closely with Peter.
Do you know anyone who talks often without thinking about what they are saying first?
Yeah that’s basically me. Which makes being a pastor interesting sometimes.
That’s Peter. He’s always running his mouth, and usually very confidently.
Jesus loves him though and knows that Peter will do big things.
The night before Jesus went to the cross…
On Good Friday…
Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest,
but Peter was standing outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the woman who guarded the gate, and brought Peter in.
The woman said to Peter, “You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They asked him, “You are not also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
One of the slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?”
Again Peter denied it, and at that moment the cock crowed.
Peter Denied Jesus 3 Times
Then what happened. Tomb / resurrection
A few days later… Fishing
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.”
(He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, “Follow me.”
Open world —> side quests
The game always reminds us of the main quest waiting for us.
You’ve never done too many side quests to return to the game.
Peter was sold out for Jesus, but when things got hard he got scared.
He got confused about what to do next. So he and the disciples went on a side quest.
We do this too.
Camp is easy. The world out there is hard.
You’re gonna make mistakes. But you can always return to following Jesus. You can always pick the main quest up.
3 times Jesus asked Peter —> reversal of his denial
The truth is Jesus will call you back as many times as it takes. No matter how many side quests you take.
I want you to leave here equipped to follow Jesus. and part of that is understanding and knowing that it’s hard.
But also, you know what makes everything in this world easier?
Team work. I love in a game when you get to play with friends or at least have sidekick characters that help you complete your missions.
That’s how we follow Jesus. Together.

What we can do together is what we can never do alone. We see each other. We watch out for each other.
Sometimes the sheep and lambs Jesus wants us to watch over are those closest to us
Accountability, shoulder to cry on, boot to kick us in the right direction. Voice that calls us back to the main quest. Being peace makers. Following Jesus
These are the bonds and relationships you NEED
Communion.
