How is faith passed from one generation to the next?
1) Hold to God’s Promises in Testing (vv. 17-19a)

a) Abraham consistently obeyed God when tested.
i) He went out from Ur.
ii) He cast out Ishmael.
iii) He offered up Isaac.
(1) Only begotten means unique in nature.
(2) When he clearly heard from God he acted.
(3) James says, “faith without works is dead.” If your children don’t see any evidence of your faith impacting your life they will believe it is dead.
b) Abraham believed that God would fulfill His Word and acted accordingly.
i) “The Lord will provide for Himself a burnt sacrifice.” (Gen. 22:8)
ii) Isaac was a young man by this point. The faith of His father is beginning to become very real in his own life.
(1) Surrender your children to God.
iii) Abraham built his life upon the Word of God, because he trusted the God of the Word.
iv) Abraham’s test was whether he loved the promise more than the Promiser.
c) Expect to endure testing and prepare for it in God’s Word.
i) Tell you kids how the Lord used Scripture in your life.

a) To enjoy God’s provision, you must be seeking Him.
i) “…behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns…” (Gen. 22:13)
b) Abraham memorialized God’s provision.
i) He named the place, Jehovah-Jirah. God will provide (see to it). In the mountain of the Lord…
ii) Marks in a Bible, places where you met the Lord, significant moments.
c) Abraham led his son in worship of God.
d) What are you looking for God to provide in your life?
i) Salvation
ii) Daily Needs
iii) Reconciliation
iv) Worship God when He provides your need and involve your children.

a) “By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau.”
i) It was not just by deception, but by faith in God’s plan.
ii) When Isaac sent Jacob away he gave him the blessing of his father Abraham.

b) Tell your children how God has worked in your past and how you are praying for their future.
