This week in Romans, we are looking at the high point of Paul’s argument. Paul has made the declaration that we are no longer in the realm of sin and death, and instead we are in the realm in which grace reigns. How should we approach our Christian life now that we have been rescued out of darkness into the kingdom of Christ? In Christ, there is no more condemnation as we have been set free by Christ. We now do not live according to the flesh, but to the Spirit. Living according to the Spirit means that we set our minds on what the Spirit desires. It is an amazing truth to know that God’s eternal Spirit, the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead, is dwelling within us. Therefore, we do have an obligation – a familial obligation. God is our Father and we are his children. We are adopted as sons of God into God’s family, co-heirs with Christ. Thus, in our Christian life, we are meant to think of God as our heavenly Father, not as our Judge.
