Homophone:
One of two or more words, such as night and knight, that are pronounced the same but differ in meaning, origin, and sometimes spelling.
A word having the same sound as another, but differing from it in meaning and usually in spelling.
(focus on v.20)
“fain” - (1828) Glad; pleased; rejoiced. but the appropriate sense of the word is, glad or pleased to do something.
“feign” - 1st occurrence is 2 Samuel 14:2 (2 others: 1 Kings 14:5; here) and from this we learn that it means their appearance, attitude, and attire are phony.
When someone is trying to deceive you they will “feign” their:
Clothing.
Joshua 9:14 And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.
Character.
2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
Calling.
Proverbs 25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
Church.
Proverbs 21:16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
Here are the ITEMS that bothered them so bad.

I. Preaching. v.19

“they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them”
Preaching verse by verse through Books of the Bible is fine, until you uproot something or someone.
Preaching against sin is fine until those sinners are in front of you.

II. Teaching. v.21

“teachest rightly...teachest the way of God truly”
Doctrinal studies are ok, unless it is against the beliefs of the people you are teaching.
Sunday School is ok, until you teach the Bible.

III. Giving. v.22

The only people that argue about money are not tithers or givers.
Watch your business meetings and learn.

Conclusion:

Be careful Christian, somebody is sneaking up on you!
