God’s Great Victory 1 John 5:1- 5
God’s Great Victory 1 John 5:1- 5
I can’t remember in my lifetime a more dangerous time to be someone important or even someone who has been left behind. People are taking their lives at an alarming rate. Sickness and murder are at every hand, yet we go on.
Yes, life has it’s disappointments and let downs. The Apostle John is reminding us that the truth of Salvation really is “good news.” We can all use a dose of Good news. Let me introduce to this book that my wife and I have been reading together and everywhere we see in the past and future, Jesus is there.
Believing in Jesus
Believing in Jesus
English Standard Version (Chapter 5)
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
-Belief that faith gives present keys to the past and future vs.1
We enter each day by faith, because, truthfully, we cannot see what is on the other side of the door leading from our homes. In spite of all of the door cameras. We take each step by faith in spite of what may occur. Faith allows us to take that step and do so with out fear. That what we can see is not faith. “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1.
Faith in Jesus Christ unlocks that front door everyday and allows us to not only experience the “here and now” but also the the past and the future as a child of God the Father. Jesus is my Savior. He is the Old Testament Messiah AND SO MUCH MORE. He is pictured in this book on the pages that tell of the past and then looked to the future. And we look for the future today as Victors, better than any gold metal winner because we know we rest firmly in God’s perfect plan. For example, we know Jesus is coming for us either at our death “as we are absent from the body and present with the Lord.” And we know that if we live until Jesus returns from Heaven before we die, our path is assured “for the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to met the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.”
This will be a true gathering of the victorious Church. Yes, this life and this world is one mess we leave behind.
But in order for you to get to this confident, daily operation, you have had to experience verse one. “Jesus is the Christ” and “everyone one who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.”
-Obedience is tied to true love. Vs. 2, 3
The authenticity of your faith is predicated on the treatment/ love you give to God’s people, and to God’s precious Holy Word. You are not to mishandle either one. You are treat them as it is “no problem” and that it is your joy. You are extremely grateful to be a part of what God is saying through John. This is the Love, Honor, and Obey of the Scriptures.
-Salvation is the Ultimate Victory. vs. 4
Here is the ultimate truth for success in this life: You must be Born of God, or “born again” in order to overcome the world. Hail to the Victors. We are the conquerors. We shall prevail. This is the triumph. Our path will be victorious. All is not lost. Steady as she goes! Do give up or throw in the towel. You are about to enter your finest moment even though you are hurting so bad you can taste it.
-Believe it when God says you have won. vs.5. Today’s Christian may think that they need to do something else to be a conqueror, other than believing that Jesus is who He says He is. We serve a Wonderful Savior.
It’s not just this morning preacher telling you this is so, let’s look further to verse 6-12.
The Testimony of the Spirit 5:6- 12
The Testimony of the Spirit 5:6- 12
English Standard Version (Chapter 5)
6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
When the Holy Spirit steps onto the scene, we recognize the eternal Godhead, the Trinity: Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.
-Jesus’ testimony is heavenly and earthly, because it is truth Spiritual and actual. vs.6
Jesus came into this world as a baby, but water and the blood. His testimony that He is real and not fake was His presence on this Earth and that he operated in the power of the Spirit of Truth.
-The agreement of testimony. It takes two to form confirmation testimony or witness for truth, here are three.vs.7, 8
Each one bears witness: The Spirit, the water, and the blood. Each one agree in truth and essence to the reality of Jesus being the Savior. To dismiss these three is to ignore the truth.
-Take ownership of the testimony of God concerning His Son Jesus Christ. Vs.9-
If you believe man as telling the truth, what about God’s testimony concerning His Son who was born of woman, lived on this earth, died on a cross, and arose from the grave and is coming again.
-Belief in Jesus provides a cradle of belief for God’s PURPOSE FOR HIS SON. vs.10
It is Christ in you the hope of Glory. You are the cradle or receptacle of belief as a walking living breathing proof of what God has done through His Son.
-The Testimony is that which gives life to you all. vs.11, 12
This is the truth in black and white. Either you have eternal life or you don’t. There is no middle ground. No riding the fence. If you don’t have the Son, you just don’t even have a life.
Having your Voice Heard in Heaven 5:13- 15
Having your Voice Heard in Heaven 5:13- 15
English Standard Version (Chapter 5)
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
-5:13 - Belief is equal to eternal life.
Elsewhere in John 5:24 it says’ “Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth my Word and believeth on Him that sent me hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life.”
-5:14- Belief is answered prayer
Confidence in prayer. Ask and expect to be heard!
-5:15- Belief is rewarded from the well of requests
The Lord God rewards belief through His Son by granting answers to our prayer requests. Boom, let God move heaven and earth to take care of your requests.
