CONTEXT Joshua 24.15
CONTEXT Joshua 24.15
Joshua and the Tribes have conquered much of Canaan although much remains
Joshua has left a parting challenge Joshua 24:15““If it is evil in your sight to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.””
The question is ever present, will the Tribes of Israel serve Yahweh?
TEXT ANALYSIS
TEXT ANALYSIS
I. Israel’s Inquiry Judges 1:1-2
Takeaway: No successor to Joshua - Moses did at the end of Deuteronomy 34:7–9.
II. Judah and Simeon and Benjamin Judges 1.3-21.
Takeaway: Judah doesn’t dispatch Adoni-Bezek but allows him to live. They have picked up the Canaanite ethic… Judges doesn’t make much of Israel because they rejected their divine commission to conquer utterly the promised land. They didnt finish the work they started. Descends from most positive Judah to most aberrant, Dan
III. Other Tribes Judges 1:22-36.
Takeaway: The spies of the tribes of Joseph cut a deal with the Luzite man but not like Rahab. Rahab recognized Yahweh. This man simply relocates Canaanite religion to a new location
