Understanding where you came from
Understanding where you came from
Acts 3:1–10 “Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man was being carried who was lame from birth. He was placed every day at the gate of the temple called “Beautiful,” so that he could ask for charitable gifts from those who were going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts, he began asking to receive alms. And Peter looked intently at him, together with John, and said, “Look at us!” So he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not possess, but what I have, this I give to you—in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk!” And taking hold of him by the right hand, he raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up, he stood and began walking around and entered into the temple courts with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, And…”
Peter and John just had this experience with a man who was lame his whole life, and now is healed
From Lame to Leaping
Some of you, that is your testimony
you were dead in your sin, as Romans 6:23 states, but you received the gift of God
Now you are alive! And this man is leaping! But he doesn’t keep quiet.
He speaks openly about it. Because his heart is fully alive and full of joy!
Not only does he share because of what happened, but he is wanting people to also experience the power of Jesus
What brings you so much joy that you just HAVE TO SHARE?!
For some its your Fortnite career, you just cant stop talking about
(even though i am better)
For this man though, it was the power of the Holy Spirit moving!!!
All Peter and John had to do was to go share, go be, and go live out the gospel.
I know for some of us we have been saved but for some reason we are not sharing the gospel.
Instead of me asking you why, I reflected on myself when I was your age, and I see where sharing the gospel can be
WORRY-SOME
We tend to worry about what people would
Think
Say
Do
But Peter and John weren't worried about the consequence as much as they were focused on sharing how their life was changed
It was too much joy in them for them to NOT SHARE
Of course, with sharing the gospel there will ALWAYS BE TROUBLE
Acts 4:1–20 “And while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees approached them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day, because it was already evening. But many of those who listened to the message believed, and the number of the men was approximately five thousand. And it happened that on the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes came together in Jerusalem, and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all those who were from the high priest’s family. And they made them stand in their midst and began to ask, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a sick man—by what means this man was healed—let it be known to all of …”
They are threating them with their life and peter and john are not fosuced on the few who hate but the man they can reach
Your focus needs to be on the many you can reach rather than the few that hate the gospel
The worst thing people can do in this state and coutnry thar you live in is bully and make fun of you, the worst they can say to a church invite is “no”
The best answer though that you can hear is a Yes to Jesus
you just need to let the Holy Spirit move your heart to reach people
This message is not about doing different things to reach and speak, but isntead allowing yourself ot get out of the way to let the Holy Spirit work through you like theyy moved through Peter and John
John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—that one will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything that I said to you.”
The Holy Spirit will guide your words and show you how to spread the gospel
Peter and John were not experts, they were young, and didn’t go to a bible college
they just went and PREACHED!
Some of you are telling yourself, I am not adquate or skilled enough to to do this, Of course you arent, I AM NOT!
But through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can reach people dispite our weaknessness
My question to is: Are you going to allow the Holy Spirit t move through you?
He wants to help and guide you to be the infleunce in your schools, but the fears and anixeties will only go away through the power of the Holy Spirit
