Start with a Prayer
Review previous Lord’s day regarding the misery of Man
Begin that we are in the redemptive part of the catechism
Having shown in the first part of the Catechism, that all men are in a state of eternal condemnation, on account of not having rendered the obedience which the Law of God requires,
we are now led to ask or to inquire whether there is, or maybe anyway of escape or deliverance from this state of misery and death.
Read Question Number 12 and have the congregation answer.

Question 12: Since, according to God’s righteous judgement we deserve temporal and eternal punishment, how can we escape this punishment and be again received into favor?
Answer: God demands that His justice be satisfied.[1] Therefore full payment must be made either by ourselves or by another.[2]
TANONG 12: Ayon sa matuwid na paghatol ng Diyos, nararapat lamang tayong parusahan sa buhay na ito at maging sa susunod; paanonatin ngayon matatakasanang kaparusahang ito at muling maging katanggap-tanggap sa Kanya?
SAGOT: Hinihingi ng Diyos naang Kanyang katarungan at hustisya ay masapatan(satisfied).[1] Kaya ngaang hinihingi ng hustisyang ito ay dapat mapagbayaran nang buo, sa pamamagitannatin o ng iba. [2]

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,
Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality.

Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
(Optional): The law could not save men from sin because it is weakened by the flesh. The sinful corruption of the flesh made the Law powerless to save men. The law cannot make men righteous but can only exposed their unrighteousness and condemn them for it. The Law cannot make men perfect but can only reveal their imperfection.
The Law serves as a witness that when the bible says that you cannot save yourself, it is telling the truth. And we can confirm that by examining ourselves.
This is why the bible also tells us of the good news on how we can be saved.
EXPOSITION
There are two legal ways to satisfy the justice of God or to satisfy the punishment:
The one is by ourselves. This is the one which the law teaches and the justice of God requires. “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them” (Gal. 3:10). This is legal.
By another. This is the method which the gospel reveals (The good news), and the mercy of God allows. This is by sending His son.
There are also two ways to get to heaven legally.
By doing all of what the law requires.
By trusting in the mediator that God has provided.

Question 13: Can we ourselves make this payment?
Answer: Certainly not. On the contrary, we daily increase our debt.[1]

Question 14: Can any mere creature pay for us?
Answer: No. In the first place, God will not punish another creature for the sin which man has committed.[1] Furthermore, no mere creature can sustain the burden of God’s eternal wrath against sin and deliver from others from it.[2]
TANONG 14: Kaya ba tayong tubusin ng ibang nilalang ng Diyos?
SAGOT: Hindi. Una salahat, hindi paparusahan ng Diyosang ibang nilalangpara sa kasalanan na taoang may gawa.[1] At saka, walang sinumang nilalang lamang ang may kakayahang pasanin ang walang hanggang poot ng Diyos laban sa kasalanan at iligtas din ang iba mula rito.[2]

Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.
The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.

Question 15: What kind of mediator and deliverer must we seek?
Answer: One who is true[1]and righteous[2]man, and yet more powerful than all creatures; that is, one who is at the same time true God.[3]

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

Exposition
This is what we call the Hypo-static union OR the doctrine of Hypo-static union, as part of Christology or the study of the person of Christ. That Jesus Christ is fully man and at the same time fully God.
This is also the doctrine that we cannot fully comprehend as God mere human being cannot fully comprehend the nature of God. We can only perceive what was revealed to us by the holy scripture.
