TT: People came looking for Jesus after he escaped them trying to crown him as king.
When Jesus does not answer the people directly, it almost feels like he is being dismissive.
However, the people are not being genuine in seeking after Jesus, they just want to know where they can get the free meal.
They wanted to crown him for giving them bread, but Jesus got away to provide for his disciples who put in the work.
Then, the people wanted to know how they could perform miraculous works of God for themselves, or maybe for their own people.
But, there is so much going on below the surface as Jesus points to:
Unbelief in the face of the miraculous.
Focusing on the immediate desires and gratifications of the flesh, even the desire of self-importance.
Exploitation of the works of God for their own gain.
TW: We often try to crown someone or something that immediately pleases us.
Eternal life is not a simply a free meal, it comes at a cost, the life of Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.
And, the miraculous works of God are not for us to exploit for gaining self-importance.
God has come to give us life, if we would only open our eyes and believe.
GT: Jesus accepts all who truly seek him and believe in him and raises them up.
Stop trying find fulfillment somewhere else, it will fail you.
We need to seek after Jesus Christ, believe in him, and follow after him wholeheartedly, rejecting unhealthy and unholy desires and personal gratification, so that you might be made holy and that other might know Christ through you through your fulfilled life.
GW: When we seek only God, God does not fail in raising us up.
Our work is to accept and believe and follow after him in doing the will of God, for the the redemption of the world.
Seek only fulfillment in believing and following the ways of Christ, and he will not fail you.
