Genesis 6:5–8 “5 When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time, 6 the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and he was deeply grieved. 7 Then the Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I created, off the face of the earth, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, and birds of the sky—for I regret that I made them.” 8 Noah, however, found favor with the Lord.”

The Grief of God - is expressed in his love of Rightness

Genesis 6:5–6 “5 When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time, 6 the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and he was deeply grieved.”

Godly Regret - Takes place not because God has made a mistake but that we through out unrigotuness bring sorry to God

God ‘was sorry’, or ‘repented’ (cf. 1 Sam. 15:11). We must be careful not to draw the wrong conclusions. This is a very obvious case where we must compare scripture with scripture. In Numbers 23:19 Moses records God’s word through Balaam: ‘God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent’ (cf. 1 Sam. 15:29)

1 Samuel 15:11 “11 “I regret that I made Saul king, for he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my instructions.” So Samuel became angry and cried out to the Lord all night.”
Numbers 23:19 “19 God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?”
1 Samuel 15:29 “29 Furthermore, the Eternal One of Israel does not lie or change his mind, for he is not man who changes his mind.””
The Bible rarely speaks of God experiencing "regret." The Hebrew word used here is yin'nā'hem, from the root word nacham. The word is exclusively about emotions: a feeling of pain, sadness, or unhappiness. The word does not imply that God feels He has made a mistake, or that He wishes to have done differently. It is possible to experience grief and "regret," as used here, without implying an error. Any parent who has held a crying, upset child as they receive a shot has experienced exactly that. Such a parent is "grieved" over the pain, but has no illusions that this was the wrong decision.

unless we wish to provoke God, and to put him to grief, let us learn to abhor and to flee from sin.

The Grief of God does not change his nature -

God is immutable - WITHOUT CHAGE
WITHOUT PARTS OR PASSIONS
Gods Grief

The Grief of God is Expressed in His true understand of the Human Heart.

5 When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time
Mind: Heart: Root: Core:
Total Depravity
But what does ‘total depravity’ mean? Total depravity means simply this: that sin affects every aspect of our human existence: our minds, our wills and our bodies are affected by sin. Every dimension of our personality suffers at some point from the weight of sin that has infected the human race.
R. C. Sproul
Total depravity is not absolute depravity. Calvinists have always taken pains to state that total depravity does not mean men are animals or devils, or that they are as depraved as they could be or will be.

Sin Has Effected the whole world
The Book of Origins: Genesis Simply Explained The Reason for the Flood (6:5–8)

Every verse centres on ‘the LORD’. It is the Lord who sees, who is sorry, who passes sentence, and who shows grace.

Everything was Good in Genesis 1:31“31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed. Evening came and then morning: the sixth day.” Now all he sees is wickedness.

Romans 3:10–18 “10 as it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one. 11 There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away; all alike have become worthless. There is no one who does what is good, not even one. 13 Their throat is an open grave; they deceive with their tongues. Vipers’ venom is under their lips. 14 Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and wretchedness are in their paths, 17 and the path of peace they have not known. 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

The Flesh

Heart
Jeremiah 17:9–10 “9 The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable—who can understand it? 10 I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.”

Proverbs 28:26 “26 The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.”

The Grace of God - Is Expressed in is unmerited Favor upon his Creation

8 Noah, however, found favor with the Lord.”
Favor - Is Grace it is the First time the word is used.
Noah was just a type of Christ

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man: 27 People went on eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage until the day Noah boarded the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

The Grace of God is fully Expressed in the Person and Work of Christ Jesus

John 6:35–40 “35 “I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again. 36 But as I told you, you’ve seen me, and yet you do not believe. 37 Everyone the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never cast out.
