Importance of teachers
Then the importance of the student
Is there a biblical principal .....or biblical teaching for that teaching and learning
SLIDE 2 “A STUDENT IS NOT ABOVE HIS TEACHER”
Throughout all 4 gospels many times Jesus was addressed as “Teacher”
Jesus let that title stand....as He should have.....because none greater.....after all He is God
Jesus one time we know of in the gospels makes a statement.....in Matt and in Luke about teachers and students
SLIDE 3
Luke 6:40 (NLT)
40 Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.
Now if you are trying to get a context on this passage......Jesus makes this statement in the midst of a lot of teaching He is doing about walking out the blessed life
Another thing you have to realize in this passage is its an order set up by God that cannot be proved different
But here are some things He has been teaching before and after this Luke 6-40 verse
SLIDE 4
JESUS TEACHING / LUKE 40
Blessed are you when men hate you, ostracize you and insult you and scorn your name as evil.....for the sake of the Son of Man
Love your enemies and do good......and lend.......expecting nothing in return
Be merciful just as your Father is merciful
Do not judge and do not condemn
Pardon and you will be pardoned
Give and it will be given to you
This is very sound teaching by our Lord.......walking in the blessed life......for look what Jesus says will be the results of this teaching He just shared
SLIDE 5
Luke 6:38 NLT
38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
A very sound teaching and truth from our Lord.......I believe not only in the giving but also the principals he also taught
of .....loving enemies and doing good.....being merciful.....not judging etc......all a teaching for us that we put our faith towards......in being returned in full........shaken together and running over
A truth taught that cannot be proven wrong.....a truth that takes faith to walk in it....and return in a blessed soul
Now Jesus is so brilliant as He rolls into this truth of His teaching
SLIDE 6
Luke 6:39 NLT
39 Then Jesus gave the following illustration: “Can one blind person lead another? Won’t they both fall into a ditch?
So now we see the importance of the teacher and the student as Jesus is teaching this principal.......He is showing the impact of teaching......not only the impact but what kind of teaching
Then He next shares our high light verse
SLIDE 7
Luke 6:40 NLT
40 Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.
We can all learn from what Jesus is saying.......we truly need to be reminded of the magnitude of what we teach or examples we set to others.....especially younger than us
Man that statement in this verse “they will become like the teacher”!
Does that get your attention?......not really much or to intense for you?.....
Look at what Jesus says next from this about teacher and student.....Btw in Matthew he says “teacher and disciple”
SLIDE 8
Luke 6:41 NLT
41 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
Wow who would ever think Jesus would make this the first example about teacher and student
Does anyone remember what He says next?
Let me help pull the speck out of your eye, when you yourself have a log in your own eye...................”you hypocrite”
SLIDE 9 “A STUDENT IS NOT ABOVE HIS TEACHER”
So now we see how the impact of teacher and student is important not just in the classroom but in our homes.......church.....work and all places there may be a relationship forming
The gift of teaching is the 3rd in order mentioned for the church....behind first apostles then prophets ....that found in 1 Corinthians 12:28........which would be in later verse no gift can be truly effective without......love
Now these days ......pretty much on any Christian station or program....or reputable news channels and programs.....pretty much the number one topic is about truth in our world today
We see that first in what Isaiah said in chapter 5 .....woe to those who call evil good and good evil.......it is teaching a student that somewhere
How about what Paul said in 2 Timothy
SLIDE 10
2 Timothy 4:3 NLT
3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.
Now this is a truth we have seen for the church that would happen ......we have been hearing it over most of our lifetime......but now we are seeing it happen in many institutions.....corporations or other entities
May we all be more aware of being a sound truthful teacher........and may we all be aware of being sound truthful students or learners.....amen?
We must always let God be the One to lead us in all truth......teaching and learning.....walking out life with Him through the love of His Son Jesus
Look at this promise in Deuteronomy
SLIDE 11
Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT
9 Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.
We are commanded by the Lord to teach the next generation about Him and teach them God’s principals of life
WORSHIP TEAM TO COME UP
SLIDE 12 “A STUDENT IS NOT ABOVE HIS TEACHER”
But may we remember to be those teachers as Jesus said in Luke 40.......
Love your enemies and do good......and lend.......expecting nothing in return
Be merciful just as your Father is merciful
Do not judge and do not condemn
Pardon and you will be pardoned
Give and it will be given to you
.........and most importantly … not being blind ourselves or being hypocrites always talking about specs in others eyes when we have a log in our own eye
What a perfect time to reflect on all this we learned today and put our promise of covenant with the Lord in action today
