8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,
Who taught you “what’s next” in following Jesus when you first trusted Him and became a Christian?

Would you say that most of the believers you know understand the cost of following Christ or are more concerned with the benefits rather than the commands?

Mr. Moore communicated the identity of a true follower of Jesus through his words and actions. He didn’t perpetuate a false, works-based gospel. He also clarified that Jesus isn’t an easy, problem-free path toward prosperity. Do you tend to lean toward one of these faulty perspectives of Christianity? How would you describe the cost of following Jesus?

6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,
9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,
10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher,
12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.
13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
Paul uses familial language
Faith doesn't happen to is it happens through us
Are you a disciple if you have never made one?
NO
A disciple is a disciple maker
a disciple is a devoted follower multiplying into more devoted followers
Christianity is for the tough
Following Jesus in Discipleship is difficult
it is a partnership between self and the Lord
Paul uses the analogies to show the need of these individuals
The soldier needs his comrades to help him
the farmer needs God to make the seed grow
The runner has endurance to last through God’s plan
Becoming a disciple does not happen overnight
workout is painful
practice is a struggle
harvest does not happen immediately
it happens through regular striving after the Lord
Share in suffering
Partner together
We should strive for disciple making
We are distracted on things other than the masters command
The farmer cannot just get up and pray for corn
this will not result in corn
he must put out the seed
If we start planting the seeds of the Gospel
the Harvest will come!
We have got to be Faithful
We are saved by Grace
not our works that save us
