This week is “theme week” at Bible Way Media and the theme is “Back To School.” So, with the summer break winding down, bible camps coming to an end, all the summer youth events now taking their break, you are fixing to get “Back In School” So today I though we would spend a few minutes discussing somethings from God’s word that are “Timeless Truths” that will help be a guide throughout this school year.
First, when there is a choice between pleasing God or pleasing your teacher or coaches please God and let the rest land where it may.
Luke 10:27 NKJV
27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
It’s not always easy putting our weekly attendances first (Hebrews 10:25-26), pleasing God is more important than our coaches, or concert directors, or academic meet teachers, desire for you to practice or play during assembly times. Putting God first will never backfire in the next life.
Second, friends are great as long as they are not seeking to corrupt your morals. True friends will not pressure you into doing those things you know are wrong.
1 Corinthians 15:33 ASV
33 Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.
Listen, I get it, school can be hard if your friends are upset with you because you didn’t join in their immorality. I had friends that made it their goal my senior year to get me to their parties where immorality ran rampant. I remember even considering it for a time because of how much they were pressuring me, but thankfully I did not give in. A real friend that will last beyond a few years in school will understand your desire to live righteously and not put that burden on.
Third, now this is for you all in school that are a little older, dating is meant to be a precursor to marriage. By that I mean, if you are attracted to someone and want to be their boyfriend or girlfriend you should be looking for someone that isn’t just “good looking” but has a desire to know truth. Many people only care about what they want but finding someone that cares about what is right and true has great biblical value. My mom used to say she didn’t care who we dated as long as they were Christians by the time we wanted to marry them. There is a reason Paul, inspired of God, wrote in 2 Corinthians 6:14
2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
If your boyfriend or girlfriend shows no interest in studying the bible with you and learning about the truth of God’s word they are worth dating much less worth marrying.
Lastly, remember that everything you do, whether you parents know you did it or not, God’s knows you did it. There is nothing you can do to hide your sins from God. The psalmist declared rightly…
Psalm 139:7–12 NKJV
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
I hope these “Timeless Truths” will help guide you throughout this school year and throughout the rest of your life.
