Habakkuk 3:1-2, Revive us again, Lord
Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
Introduction...
Introduction...
the revival preaching theme is defined as Making something alive again; renew. ..
the revival concept is defined as The soveriegn activity of God whereby he renews his people individually and corporately in vigour, affecting both sincerity of belief and quality of behaviour...
TALK, PREACH.....
The word revival combines two Latin words, “vivo,” meaning to live, and “re” meaning again. It’s like a rebirth or a re-awakening, an invigorating experience where the Holy Spirit moves freely among believers, setting their hearts on fire for the Lord.
what I want us to understand and get from these definitions is that we can not revive ourselves…we need the Trinity....TALK, PREACH....
that is why i love the theme on the flyer and the accompaning scripture...
REVIVE US AGAIN, LORD, Psalm 85:6–7 “Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, Lord, And grant us Your salvation.”
the Lord can make you new, can make you alive again,
I hear you David, Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” ..TALK,PREACH.....
not only did david know that only God could do this so did the prophet Habakkuk.
Let’s teach this thing...
HISTORY/POINTS
HISTORY/POINTS
The prophet ministered to the people of Judah, Southern Kingdom. The Northern Kingdom was captured by the Assyrians but God was about to use the babylonians to discipline His people.
God’s own people were living wickedly, greedily exploiting and oppression one another. Leaders were corrupt, and abusing their power and abusing the people…sounds like 2024....TALK.....
Habakkuk spoke to God on behalf of the people, pleading for justice.
Most prophets spoke to the people on behalf of God but he spoke to God on behalf of the people...
we call that intercessory....TALK, PREACH....
the love he had for the people, we call that PASTORING..
We see in the first two chapters of the book a question and answer session. Habakkuk is trying to get justice toward the wicked and salvation for the true followers.
However God had a plan for them all because even some of the so called true believers was not as faithful as Habakkuk thought…you can fool me but you cant fool God..TALK, PREACH....
So we come to chapter 3 after the session and the Prophet gives us the answer to all questions.
we need prayer, praise and trust....TALK, PREACH.....
but back to the main topic, God reviving us...
Lets go deeper
Revive us again, Lord...
look at that 2nd verse...
Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.”
Still the correspondence is kept up between God and his prophet. In the first chapter he spoke to God, then God to him, and then he to God again; in the second chapter God spoke wholly to him by the Spirit of prophecy; now, in this chapter, he speaks wholly to God by the Spirit of prayer,
but look what he prays for in this verse, revive your work...
what is God’s work...
CALVIN explains "thy work" to be Israel; called "the work of My hands" ( Isa 45:11 ).
the prophet wanted to wake up the people, to renew the people, to make them alive again in Him
the prophet knew they couldn’t do it by themselves...
The prayer of Habakkuk shows us that revival is a work of God, not the achievement of man. There is something man can and must do for revival — simply cry out to God and plead for His reviving work.
church we are the work of God, He has brought us so far but yet we are still dead at times....
when I think about what He has done for me, I am revived
when i think about what He is doing now…I am revived
when I think about what He can do, I am revived....TALK, PREACH..
Look at the next part, Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.”
Habakkuk longed for God to do a work that was evident to everyone as a work of God. He prayed that revival would be known at a definite time and place (in the midst of the years), not just as an idea in someone’s head.
What does that mean? He wanted God to show work for His work…REPEAT
Let me call the roll…pharaoh army, manna from heaven…TALK, PREACH
want to come closer home…He woke you up this morning….
if you need proof that God can renew someone....Here am I...
TALK, PREACH...
Lastly,
Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.” ..
Habakkuk prayed knowing well that they didn’t deserve revival, so he prayed for mercy. The idea is, “LORD, I know that we deserve your wrath, but in the midst of your wrath remember mercy and send revival among us.”
Yall remember what mercy is…God keeping us from what we deserve...
