It used to be that prisoners were fed only bread and water during their captivity. It would be all a person needed to stay alive. Bread could sustain a person on a long journey. It is less likely to go bad over the course of a few days while being bounced around in a bad compared to most fruits and vegetables. Jesus calls himself the bread of life. Not like the bread we bake and eat for a few more moments of energy. As Pastor Harrison explains it, Jesus is a source that once taken, continues to refresh.
