Romans 5:20-21

“Lots of spirits in this place.”

There are lots of spirits because sin abound!

Man has given himself over to the spirits.

The Bible says much about sin, as we can read in Romans 5:20-21:

First, verse 20:

20 God’s law was given [“slipped in] so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful kindness became more abundant.

20เมื่อมีธรรมบัญญัติ ก็ทำให้มีการละเมิดธรรมบัญญัติปรากฏมากขึ้น แต่ที่ใดมีบาปปรากฏมากขึ้น ที่นั้นพระคุณก็จะไพบูลย์ยิ่งขึ้น

Why was the law given during Moses’ time?

1.     To know what sin is.

2.     To expose how sinful man is.

We are now living in a more sinful time than ever before:

• Slavery of women (prostitution)
• Homosexuality - AIDS
• Abortion
• Wars
• Murder
• Gangs
• Drugs & addiction
• Pornography
• Bombings
• Materialism

The sin and alienation from God is causing death.

Everything is speeding up and coming on much faster – into high gear.  I.e.:

• Earthquakes
• Tsunamis
• Flooding
• Droughts
• Wars
• Terrorism
• Pestilence

As we near the coming of Christ, this is only the beginning – it will worsen!

So in our world today, don’t be shocked at the amount of spirits, lawlessness, worldliness and abandonment of God.

Yet, God never leaves His people without hope.

In the midst of all we’re seeing, there is grace.

God’s love for man is deep and wide.

Look at Romans 5, verse 21:

21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.)

Yes, sin rules over people and brings death.

Don’t you see this everyday in the choices people make that lead to death and self-destruction?

Example: Brittany Spears – Famous – rebel, 2 children & divorced, addict, self-destructing.

Left on our own without God, we chose the foolish and will self-destruct!

But for us, God’s wonderful kindness – His righteousness – rules instead. -

Revelation 5:1-4 tells of the time when John is looking at the scroll in the hand of God.

1 And I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the outside of the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel, who shouted with a loud voice: “Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and unroll it?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it.  4 Then I wept because no one could be found who was worthy to open the scroll and read it.

1และในพระหัตถ์เบื้องขวาของพระองค์ผู้ประทับบนพระที่นั่งนั้นข้าพเจ้าได้เห็นหนังสือม้วนหนึ่งเขียนไว้ทั้งข้างในและข้างนอก   มีตราประทับอยู่เจ็ดดวง 2และข้าพเจ้าได้เห็นทูตสวรรค์ที่มีฤทธิ์องค์หนึ่ง   ประกาศด้วยเสียงอันดังว่า   “ใครเป็นผู้ที่สมควรจะแกะตราและคลี่หนังสือม้วนนั้นออก” 3และไม่มีผู้ใดในสวรรค์   บนแผ่นดินโลก   หรือใต้แผ่นดินที่สามารถคลี่หนังสือม้วนนั้นออก   หรือดูหนังสือนั้นได้ 4และข้าพเจ้าก็ร่ำไห้ เพราะไม่มีผู้ใดสมควรจะคลี่หนังสือม้วนนั้นออกหรือดูหนังสือนั้นได้

The angel asks: “who’s able to open this scroll and seven seals?”

• Angels – No!
• All the great men/women who ever lived – All you famous people with money & power – here’s your chance! – But, no, they cannot break the seals or open the scroll!
• Demons: here’s your chance – No!

John weeps – no one was found worthy!

But, one of the 24 elders says that (v. 5) Jesus was worthy to open the scroll and break the 7 seals!

5 But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne,* has conquered. He is worthy to open the scroll and break its seven seals.”

5และมีผู้หนึ่งในพวกผู้อาวุโสนั้น  บอกแก่ข้าพเจ้าว่า “อย่าร้องไห้เลย นี่แน่ะ สิงห์แห่งเผ่ายูดาห์ เชื้อสายของดาวิด   พระองค์ทรงมีชัยแล้ว พระองค์จึงทรงสามารถแกะตราทั้งเจ็ดดวงและคลี่หนังสือม้วนนั้นออกได้”  

What is heaven like (the place we will spend eternity with Jesus)?:

Ø      No more sadness or sorrow

Ø      No more war - our joy will be full

Ø      No more poverty

Ø      No more sickness

Ø      No more death.

Think of be best situation you can imagine, and heaven will be far better!

We will spend eternity with our Creator God!  This is the best place we can be.

We have the right standing to enter in to eternal life because the Lamb is worthy!

We are able to enter into eternal life through:

• Spirits? – No!
• Mohammad? – No!
• Siddartha? – No
• Other religions?
• Our own efforts/merit? – No!

We only enter in through the blood sacrifice – the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus is worthy!

We take part in the Lord’s Supper to remember the great sacrifice of Jesus.
