Today is a day of morning. We have lost a cherished friend, beloved family member, devoted mother, and loving wife. Someone who left an indelible impact on our lives. Touching us in ways that will forever remain. Her present though not with us physically, is still ever with us.
Today is also a day of celebration of the life Carla lived
How so? On a day of morning? Celebration of life
We are celebrating that Carla gave her life to Jesus and not just once but Jesus were her everything
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
For those who believe in Jesus and are apart of the family of God we will see her again!
It is a celebration of the life she live that SHE RAN A GOOD RACE
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Her race was about TWO main things… the things Jesus to be about
People and especially people closest to her…she had an endearing words that she was say about those closet to her….as she would say “my people” those “my people” and even more so her family she would say “my Terah” “my Emily” “my Katie” “my Rus” or when she wanted Russ’s attention she would say Russel
She was passionate about people being all that they created to be by God
She was passionate about YOU meeting Jesus and running your race well
She was passionate about you becoming SPIRITUALLY HEALTHY, EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY, RELATIONALLY HEALTHY, AND PHYICALLY HEALTH
She was deeply committed to speaking the truth, always delivering it with grace and love.
She a an amazing attribute that is missing today!
Often saying things like “I’m just saying” or “Oh, No, no, no, no, no”
She was seroiuse about her life, had a purpose, but this didn’t mean there was no laughter, she could laugh and bring joy to any room…. also someone who like to have fun and laugh with people. PAUSE
One of the most remarkable things about Carla was that there was no such thing as a lukewarm friendship or a half-hearted interaction with her. Whenever you were with Carla, you got all of her—fully present, fully engaged, every single time.
CARLA MARKED YOUR LIFE AND MINE
2. The second thing, which is actually the first thing in her life that she was passionate about was JESUS
Anybody who is ever been around Carla knew she LOVED, LOVED, LOVED JESUS
She was not passive child of God. She is someone who devoted her life to God and three of things that she specifically gave her life to was the WORD. She loved the WORD. Start a ministry dedicated to the WORD of God because she knew the TRANSFORMING power of the WORD.
I vividly recall the countless times she would share her excitement, saying, "I read twenty chapters today, and God just exploded in my mind!"
Secondly she loved to worship the Lord and we were blessed at Renew to have her be our worship leader for around five years. She led us well always bring JOY and ENCOURAGEMENT
Song JOY
She knew if you encountered Jesus you would be changed
Third she had a ministry of prayer. She lead the national day of prayer of Cleveland, prayer gatherings throughout the Cleveland area, and went on prayer trips praying for states, capitals, people and our country. SHE HAD A HEART for our country to turn back to God.
My friends today is a day of morning and a celebration.
- Carla ran a good race….Carla loved Jesus and she loved you “her people”
If Carla was here today she would say
- She loves you
- How are you doing? How are you really doing?
- She would ask in her Carla way ask not so bluntly how are you doing at the race that God has for you?
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
A Song of Ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”
