Reference Scriptures:
Joseph: Genesis 50:20 - "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."
Insight: Joseph’s ability to see God’s greater purpose in his suffering encourages us to trust God’s plan even when our circumstances seem bleak.
David: Psalm 34:17-18 - "When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
Insight: David’s life and psalms remind us that God is always close to those who are suffering and will ultimately deliver them.
Jeremiah: Lamentations 3:22-23 - "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Insight: Jeremiah’s words in Lamentations teach us about God’s unending mercy and faithfulness, even in the midst of deep suffering.
Elijah: 1 Kings 19:11-12 - "And he said, 'Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.' And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper."
Insight: Elijah’s encounter with God in the gentle whisper shows that God’s presence and encouragement often come in unexpected ways, especially in times of despair.
Jesus: Hebrews 12:2 - "Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Insight: Jesus’ endurance of the cross sets the ultimate example of trusting in God’s plan and finding joy in the promise of future glory.
Paul: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Insight: Paul’s acceptance of his hardships as a means to experience God’s strength encourages us to find strength in our own weaknesses.
Hannah: 1 Samuel 1:27-28 - "For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.”
Insight: Hannah’s dedication of Samuel after her period of barrenness shows the importance of trusting God’s timing and promises.
