Who lost power for more than an hour?
Who had a tree come down?
TENSION: We all go through storms in life.
CONTEXT: Jesus had just fed 5,000 people. They wanted to make him King, so Jesus slipped away and told his disciples to go ahead and start going across the lake.
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing.
evening came...down to the sea -
He had just fed 5000 plus people.
Free food - the biggest attendance we ever had was giving away free chick fil a on Saturday.
They wanted to make him King. But that was not why Jesus came.
Jesus withdrew again by himself - we need that time.
got into a boat -
a boat means one boat.
In Matthew it says that Jesus sent them. So they were forced to leave.
It was now dark - Matthew says it was right before dawn, meaning they have been trying to get across the sea for 8 hours. Which is exhausting.
Sea became rough - Who sent that wind? Jesus did. He sent them. Then he was watching him as he goes across the sea.
Jesus will send you into the storm.
Jesus will send you into the storm.
19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
three or four miles - that is halfway across. about 8 miles across.
frightened - illustration - no man acts scared in front of other.
They thought it was an evil Spirit.
Matthew says they were screaming in fear - This is not normal for men. haha
coming near the boat - They could not get to Jesus, they didn’t even know where he was, so Jesus came to them.
Jesus will find you in the storm.
Jesus will find you in the storm.
If Jesus would have walked across water on a sunny day it would be a nice party trick. But he did it in the midst of the storm.
21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
They were glad - They weren’t upset that it took all night.
Immediately the boat was at land - what took them 8 hours to get halfway, Jesus got them them in a moment.
You might be in the storm thinking how long will this last! But everything changes when God steps in .
Jesus will bring you out of the storm.
Jesus will bring you out of the storm.
Once Christ has brought you though to teach you what you needed.
CONCLUSION:
Prob peter.
Lord save me.
Bartholomue - means a son that suspends water.
Peter means rock. haha
Micah story?????

CONTEXT:
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
They got in the boat. Back to the area where he was from
This was something that they had likely done 1000s of times in their life. Fishermen set sail in while still dark. They knew the sea well.
18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing.
They weren’t prepared for this.
They should have been it was very often stroms would come up quick.
That is just like life isn’t it. Everythnig is going well. In fact, often times its when God moves. Then the storm comes.
19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
7 miles across - so they were righ in the middle of it.
Right in the middle of the storm - Jesus shows up.
They couldn’t get to Jesus, so Jesus came to them.
IT makes not senset ehy would have left JEsus on teh other side of the lake by himself. God sent them through the sotrm in order to show that he could get them through the storm.
They were frightened - you and I would be to if we saw someone walking on water.
It is I, do no tby afraid.
21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
