Biblical Clarity on LGBTQ Choas

Story- Archery(missing the mark bullseye)

Opening- Roman’s 1 highlights the natural wrath of God against the Godless culture. This is summarized in verse 18

Vs 18- The truth is suppressed(Greek restrain) to bind, arrest the truth. This may explain the resistance truth in our culture.

This can take the form of rejecting Objective(common sense) truths for Relative(changing) truth.

Vs 19-20- God revealed himself(this is what they reject) Creation is obvious(even though they didn't have God’s revelation(like the Hebrew’s did)

Vs 21- Didn’t glorify God(idolatry). Thinking became futile(darkened) If God is real I shouldn’t thank him, I will resist him(and reality)

Truth is unchanging because its part of who God is(source of truth)

I reject God I determine what’s true.(I make the rules idolatry)

Vs 24- Step 1- God gave them over

Marriage was established in the garden(Creation ordinance, natural order)

Genesis 2:24 (NIV)That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

in accordance with the attributes and purposes which are proper in view of one’s origin.

Jesus Quotes this-

Matthew 19:5 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?”

Takeaway- Clarity, Two different Genders, coming together in marriage and becoming one(sexual relationship). Clarity(objective)

Sex outside of marriage is sin

Vs 26-Step 2 Homosexuality(Keyword Natural)

Natural = in accordance with the attributes and purposes which are proper in view of one’s origin.

Poll- “The latest results show that 7.6% of U.S. adults now align themselves with the LGBTQ+ community — up from 3.5% in 2012, when Gallup started collecting this data. Compare that to four years ago, when the figure was 5.6%.” NPR

Unlike skin color which is sacred(natural, God made)

Vs 28-Step 3 Depraved minds- This is why LGBTQ keeps changing.

Subjective chaos, its everywhere in our culture because our culture is under God’s wrath. This is why the flag in lgbtq. Opens thee door to all kinds of sins.

Hard Question- Can this affect the church?

Transition- If this is a sin, what is our response? The Bible gives further clarity.

Turn to 1st Corinthians 6:9-11

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

POINT-Don’t isolate this sin(this text doesnt), beware of anyone who treats this sin differently.

Prejudice- not treating people as image barriers of God.

Bondage- Being homosexual and being a Christian(bigger issue)

Story- Kid and the chair. She would rather be uncomfortable than listen.

Manifests in two ways

Side A- God blesses same sex unions(Jesus defined marriage)

Side B- You identify(unchanging) as Gay but don’t lust or have sexual relationships outside of a man woman marriage.

Side B problem-is the Greek word used in Romans 1:26 for homosexuality is same gender desire towards one another.

No one says I’m an envious Christian.

What’s your response to sin? Kill it(Col 3:5, Rom 8:13)

Lifelong singleness? What a burden! Revoice, lifelong romantic friendship”

Problem- Christians are changing their tune. Definitions change, and the gospel is threaten, People are burdened.

Through worldly pressure

Our hearts(someone we love) even family(Jesus said he would split families) ALSO-

Story- Ryan Visconti was in a meeting of several pastors with popular pastor Andy Stanley, when the topic of dealing with the cultural pressure of homosexuality came up, Andy’s answer shocked many of the men in the room. Instead of than confronting it, they should accommodate it. Saying he would encourage any gay couples in his congregation to commit to each other.”

There were Christians who struggled with all of these sins, many today have also been freed from this sin. Encouraging them to sin, or surrender to it as an identity is wrong.

Rosario Butterfield(who was Lesbian) said “How sad indeed for someone who is already weighed down by sin to be denied the true remedy for the problem. That is what gay Christianity does. It denies the sexual sinner repentance.” Without repentance, there is no salvation.”

Vs 9- This is a gospel issue, this is who they were.

11- The solution is the same solution for every sinner.

Jesus freed me, why would I wear the chains as bracelet. My identity is in him. I was washed, I was washed, I was sanctified(set apart) I was Justified.

The bible says I put sin to death, not wear it as a label, or identity.

Question what do I do to help someone I love who is struggling with this?

Final- You preach the Gospel! I don’t change the gospel out of love I preach it out of love because changing it is the most unloving thing to do.
