Exhortation
What does it mean to follow? Well, have you ever played follow the leader? The leader walks around, sometimes being very silly, and you’re behind them doing what they do. When we follow it means we are being led by the one in front of us. The Psalmist, King David for this Psalm, is saying that those who follow God are happy and glad. In this Psalm David is reflecting on going through a hard time, he’s asking God to save him. People are trying to hurt him. They are making fun of him.
Now, if David keeps those people in front of him he will only be led to sadness and anger. But King David knows that if he follows God through the hard places of life, he will come out of those places. Even in sickness, sadness, and suffering, the one who follows God can be joyful, knowing that God will deliver his people.
The Psalm says that people who follow God love him and rejoice in his salvation. They are always praise God for his greatness and kindness.
We are always following something or someone, shouldn’t it be God – the one who loves us no matter what, the one who can save us from anything?
Call to Action: Are you ever tempted to follow friends into trouble? Let’s take a moment and reflect on how wonderful it is to follow God.
