Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.

Passage
Today’s passage come from Psalm 143 verse 10.
Teach me to do what you want, because you are my God. Let your good Spirit2 lead me on level ground.

Exhortation
Sometimes life can have some pretty big ups and downs. Some of us know this too well. But we all experience it. King David definitely experienced it during his lifetime. Imagine the high of defeating Goliath in front of the whole Israelite army. He was celebrated as a national hero. But imagine the low of having to hide from his own son who was trying to kill him and take his throne. What David longed for was level ground. A place to regain his footing in life.
So, in a moment of trial and trouble David writes this Psalm where he asks God to teach him His ways. He wants to walk instep with God, not the wild world around him. Interestingly, he asks for God’s Spirit to be the one to lead him. He knows that the Spirit will lead him on level ground. He knows that the Spirit will help him live a life in a way that will glorify God. The Spirit will guide him toward life.
Call to Action: Perhaps we should be doing the same thing King David did – asking God to teach us his ways and then walk with the Spirit on to level ground. Why don’t we take a second and ask God to help us walk according to His Spirit.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, in the highs and lows of life you are there. Please teach us. Help up to delight in your will and walk in your ways, according to your Holy Spirit. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
