Introduction

Hello Dwell, this is Kenneth.
[1 second pause]
Today is Saturday, October 12th. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily!
[2 seconds of silence]
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
[2 seconds of silence]
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Saturday)
Father in heaven, your way is pure and your words are perfect. Remind us today that you are a shield for all those who take refuge in you.
[3 seconds of silence]
Passage
Today’s passage come from eighth chapter of John’s gospel account, verse 12.
English Standard Version (Chapter 8)
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
[3 seconds of silence]
Exhortation
I don’t know about you, but I do not like walking around in the dark. One time, when I was a kid, I was sleep walking, and I walked right out of my house! When I woke up I was standing in a big field that was past my back yard (we lived out in the country). It was totally dark, and I was not happy at all. When I turned around I could see the lights around my house and I took off running toward the them! I wanted desperately to be in the light!
In our verse, Jesus says that he is the light of the world. When we are with him, we can see clearly. When we walk in his ways we are safe and secure in the light his loving kindness. Jesus is home for those who follow him.
Jesus also says that whoever follows him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. When we walk in darkness we do not really know where we are going. It is dangerous to walk around the dark. When we follow Jesus we know exactly where we are, and we can avoid dangers.
Now, let me say this for my younger listeners, Jesus isn’t talking about night time. In Genesis 1 God is the one who creates night time, and God is good, and he calls the night good. The darkness of night time is for resting, and dreaming sweet dreams. This is why we get snug in our beds at night, safe and sound.
The darkness Jesus is talking about in John 8 represents ignorance, sin, and death. Light represents knowledge, goodness, and life. Jesus is the light of the world and his follower walk in his light, they do not walk in darkness any longer. What a wonderful and luminous reality!
Call to Action: Why don’t you take a moment to consider the wonder of our passage, and maybe express your gratitude for God sending Light into our dark and broken world.
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father in the beginning you said “Let there be light” and you lit up the darkness. Likewise you sent your Son to be the light of the world. Please help us to not walk in darkness, but walk in his light. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Outro

"It's been great to be with you today."
Tomorrow, we'll be in Psalm 143. Until then, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
