Introduction
Hello Dwell, this is Kenneth.
[1 second pause]
Today is Wednesday, October 16th. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily!
[2 seconds of silence]
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
[2 seconds of silence]
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
[5 seconds of silence]
Opening Prayer
(Wednesday)
Gracious God, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Today, help us walk with you.

Passage
Today’s passage come from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans. Chapter 8 verses 5-6.
5 Those who live following their sinful selves think only about things that their sinful selves want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about the things that the Spirit wants them to do.
6 If a person’s thinking is controlled by his sinful self, then there is death. But if his thinking is controlled by the Spirit, then there is life and peace.

Exhortation
Too often I put myself above everyone else, and I mean everyone, even God. Even though I know that I’m broken and my desires can lead me away from God, I still sometimes chase after the things that that my flesh, my sinful self as our verse says, wants.
Paul says that when I’m only thinking about myself I become more and more selfish and consumed by chasing my own dreams and desires, running over anyone who gets in my way. This way of living leads to death. Our minds become darkened and we lose sight of how God wants us to live.
But Paul says there is another way to live our lives. A more wonderful way. If we live according to the Spirit then we will chase after the things he loves. Our thoughts and dreams will be transformed to be like his! When we follow the Spirit our minds are lit up and we begin to thrive and flourish in a life that is not consumed by our sinful selves. Rather we begin to take joy in serving others.
When we follow our own sinful selves we are just looking down at our feet, and crashing into anyone who gets in our way, but when we walk in the Spirit our heads are up and we can see all that God has for us. Walking in the Spirit leads to life and peace.
Call to Action: Let’s take a few seconds, right now, reflect on our passage. How should we go about our day today, following our selfish desires or following the Holy Spirit?
[7 seconds of silence]
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
[3 seconds of silence]
Father, lead us by your Holy Spirit into the way of life and peace. Help us to put your good will above our selfish will. Guide us in all truth and goodness so that we can be a blessing to those around us. We ask this in the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.
