Intro: Uncrowned
Create crowns and swords using construction paper
The goal of the game: Use your sword to knock off the crown on other players (no hands, no hard hits)
The last student standing wins
Earn crowns doing good things
Doesn’t compare to God’s glory
Will lay down our crowns
Body:
Main Point: The risen Jesus is worthy of worship because He has conquered sin and death.
Worthy is the King who has created.
Revelation 4:9-11.
Q. What does it mean to be worthy?
Q. Why is Jesus worthy according to this passage?
Q. Why did the elders “cast their crowns before the throne” (v. 10)? What can we learn from this?
Worthy is the Lion who has conquered.
Revelation 5:1-5.
Q. What is the sealed scroll? Why is Jesus the only one able to open the scroll?
Q. How does knowing that God holds all of human history in His hands impact your understanding of His character? His authority?
Worthy is the Lamb who has resurrected
Revelation 5:6-10.
Q. How did the angels and elders respond to the Lamb? What do we learn from these passages about genuine worship?
Q. What do verses 9-10 show us about diversity in God’s Kingdom? How should this truth change our thinking?
Christ Connection:
In John’s vision, he saw heavenly worship that centered on Jesus, the slaughtered Lamb of God, who stood fully alive. All worship now, and forevermore, is based on the resurrected Savior, who alone is worthy of all honor and praise.
Head: How does knowing we will one day join in worship around God’s throne in Heaven affect your understanding of worship here?
Heart: How do God’s power and majesty in Heaven give you comfort and assurance in your struggles here and now?
