Intro

Johns message in this letter is simple: those who claim to love Jesus will show it by the way they love others.

1 John 5:1–2 NLT

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments.

Everyone who believes is talking about the people who confess and trust Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. The Word Christ means anointed one and is the greek word for Messiah, who is the promised one that God told the Israelites who was going to save them from oppression of their sin and establish a new kingdom.

Thats exactly what Jesus did. It looked a lot different than what the Jews thought it was going to look like. But He said that he came to John 3:16-18

John 3:16–18 ESV

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Its through Jesus that we are saved and adopted into the family of God.

John tells that everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. Out of the love
