We are going to start a several week series!! Where we will look back on Jesus, things he taught, and there will be fun activities, crafts, and I will…of course…be challenging y’alls brain to remember verses and lessons!!
At the end of the series, theres an x marks the spot. There will be a surprise at the end. But in order to get there y’all will need to listen, behave, and remember these things!!
Part 1: The baptism.
Now, we know how Jesus came to earth, correct? And so he grew up and learned just like we do! He had a family with a mom and dad and siblings. He was fully man yet fully God cause he was the Son of God. When he grew up, in his adulthood, it was time for him to start his ministry. There was something he had to do first to be filled with the holy spirit. Can anyone tell me what that possibly could have been?
What is something that Christians do to show the world that they are followers of Jesus? I will give a hint. It involves water!!
Baptism!! And why do we decide to be baptized? (I just gave y’all the answer)…to show the world that we are committed to God and choose to follow him!
So here is the story Matthew 3: 13-17
Matthew 3:13–17 NLT
Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him. After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
So this sanctified Jesus for his journey coming up!! Why do we think John tried to talk Jesus out of it? Because John knew who Jesus was and it would be a huge honor to baptize the Son of God!
Why did Jesus say it must be done and we must carry out all that God requires? (because I gave y’all the answer) Because baptism is when we show the world we are going to follow the Lord and after we accept him as our Lord and Savior. And in order for Jesus to be able to start his journey, he had to be a part of this sanctification.
Take feet off, put water and dove up there
