BAPTISM - AUGUST 2024

INTRO

This evening we have the privilege of celebrating together the baptisms of

AIDEN,

TRIPP,

and REBECCA.

They have responded to the call of the gospel.

They have repented of their sin

and by faith - trusted in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for their salvation.

We rejoice with them as they come to publicly profess their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and obey His first command to believers: to be baptized (Matt. 28:18–20).

TRANSITION

We know that baptism is an outward physical sign of an inward spiritual reality. Nothing magical or supernatural takes place because someone is immersed in these waters.

The act of baptism does not save you, but only is a symbol pointing to the reality of your salvation.

It’s like a wedding ring. The ring does not make you married, but serves as a sign to the world that you have committed yourself in marriage to your lifelong spouse.

Baptism is a beautiful picture given by the Lord Jesus Christ that points to the spiritual transformation that takes place when one rightly responds to the gospel message.

LET’S PRAY

…We rejoice in the wonderful picture of baptism that points to their spiritual burial with Christ and ultimate resurrection to walk in newness of life. May we once again be humbled by the wonderful reality that through the power of the gospel we do not come into judgment, but have passed from death to life. We pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

IN THE WATER

THIS IS AIDEN / TRIPP / REBECCA:

SHE / HE HAS COME TODAY TO MAKE A PUBLIC PROFESSION OF FAITH AND TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!

One of the parts of their testimony that I remember… AFFIRMATION:

Q: DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD, THAT HE DIED ON THE CROSS FOR YOUR SINS AND WAS RAISED ON THE THIRD DAY?

I do.

Q: ARE YOU TRUSTING IN CHRIST ALONE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SIN AND FOR THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE?

I am.

Q: BY GOD’S GRACE, DO YOU INTEND TO KNOW, LOVE, AND OBEY JESUS AND LIVE AS HIS DISCIPLE…FOR GOD’S GLORY?

I do.

SISTER / BROTHER, IT IS MY PRIVILEGE THEN TO BAPTIZE YOU IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. “BURIED WITH CHRIST IN DEATH, RAISED TO WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE!”
