intro

dialouge
do you think it would be good for God to let everyone into heaven?
why does he let you into heaven?
God is perfectly good
he has many attributes
just, loving, merciful, gracious
He cant let sin go unpunished
think of it like this
if someone murdered your son
and went to trial
and the judge told the person
you know what , I think your a good guy
im going to just let you go free
is that judge good?
no
this is where Jesus steps in
thre is a man who is willing to take the punishment for your crimes in your place
if you repent and turn to Him and ask
when you ask Him to take your place,
He changes you by the spirit....
a spiritual rebirth happens
and the justice of God goes onto His son
and the mercy of God goes onto you
this is how He is perfectly just
and perfectly merciful
If christ doesnt die on the cross for us we all go to hell
and here we read how Jesus Christ died for you..
Luke 23:44–46 NKJV
Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
Jesus has been hanging on the cross in Agony.
at the 6th hour---noon
jewish custom was to count the hours from sunrise
at noon there was a major eclipse until 3
while Jesus was hanging on the cross
there is a roman historian named Phlegon who recorded a major eclipse and major earthquake that happened around the same time as the crucifixion of Jesus.
giving more historical evidence outside of the bible to the events we find in scripture
remember this is a historical account of Jesus life
if we were in school, this would be under history class
now the earth is groaning because its creator is hanging on the cross
and taking the penalty for the sins of the world…
John 1:29 NKJV
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Q. How does he take away the sins of the world?
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
While Jesus becomes sin for the behalf of all who repent and believe
A major earthquake shakes Jerusalem
during the earthquake a significant event happens
the veil in the temple is torn.
Q. Does anyone know the significance of the temple veil?
the temple was the center of Jewish worship
this is where the jews would offer animal sacrifices
and burn incense to the Lord
inside the temple was the holy place where the shew bread was
and the lampstands and
alter of incense
then there was a 4 inch thick veil
this is a thick cloth that seperated the holy place from the holy of holies
the holy of holies
was the earthly dwelling place of Gods presance
it was seperated by the veil from the presance of men
showing that man was seperated from God by sin
Isaiah 59:1–2 NKJV
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
this has been our problem since adam and eve
the high priest could only enter the holy of holies once a year to make atonment for the people of Israel for their sin
They would even tie a rope around his waist in case he died coming into the presance of God
so that they could pull him out
When Jesus cries out father into my hands I commit my spirit
the veil tears down the middle
signifieing that Jesus death on the cross was a suffecient attonment
to destroy the seperating wall between man and God
Jesus makes final atonment for sin
and the way into the presance of God is open to all people
through faith in Jesus
now that sin has been paid for
God does not dwell in the temple
but he dwells in believers
Acts 17:24 NKJV
God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
The veil has been torn
and you have direct access to God

go into the holy of holies

most of you have probably never thought of the fact that you
are privilaged
to be able to come directly into the presance of God
all of the old tetemant prophets and heros
longed to see the day
when the messiah would pay the penalty for sin
giving direct access to God
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
since therefore our sin has been dealt with on the cross
you have access by faith through the spirit to come
directly to God
in all things
by the spirit
Q. How many of you stop and think of who your praying to before you pray?
it can sometimes be so meh....
I was just convicted on this
my prayers were so basic
I realized I was not praying in the spirit.
on one hand it is because I didnt stop and reflect on this
Jesus died in my place
1 Peter 3:18 NKJV
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
not only did he deal with my sin
but he gave me access to God the father
by the holy spirit
something nobody on this earth besides true christians have
He made a way for us to come to HIm
let us cherish our relationship with God
Now there was another reason i was not praying in the spirit annd
that reason is because I forgot I am a spiritual person
we all are spiritual people
who also live in the flesh
it is much easier to relate to the flesh
but Iw ant you to see that as Jesus dies
He says to his father in heaven
into your hands I commit my spirit

Live a spiritual life

Jesus did not say
father Into your hands I commit my body
no
He knew his body was going in the grave and God would restore it at the ressurection
the body is just a tangible tent to carry the spiritual life
mind, will, emotions , intuition
these are closely related to the soul and spirit
who you really are
is in your soul and spirit
please make sure you are giving thought to that
and make that decision today
to offer up your spirit to God
and to have your mind made up that your life is
His
I needed this reminder to pray in the spirit
because my prayer is a spiritual practice,
the christian life is a spiritual life
and too many of us live it by the flesh
by what wee see
Galatians 5:25 NKJV
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Q. are you living and walking by the spirit?
lets get back to a spiritual life
that trusts God
that believes He is with us
and that He can do all things..
Christ has made the sacrafice for sin
once and for all
Hebrews 7:27 NKJV
who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
Let us worship Jesus
for His once for all sacrafice
Luke 23:47–49 NKJV
So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!” And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
After Jesus died on the cross
the roman centeruion---soldier
who had seen many people crucifed before
was able to understand that there was something vastly different about Jesus
His actions of love on the cross
and the sun going dim for 3 hours coupled with the earthquake
He repented in who he thought Jesus was
the rest of the crowd went home sad and distraught
as some of His disciples looked on with breaking hearts
in His death
we see this passage come to life
Jesus said
John 12:32 NKJV
And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
this is how all of the nations of the earth will be blessed through the seed of abraham
the promise of the messiah is culminated in the cross
and this is why paul preaches
1 Corinthians 1:23 NKJV
but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,
in the crucifixion we have peace with God
Jesus mission to die for sin is accomplished
this is why he also said on the cross, it is finished
the mission was fulfillin the righteous requirement of the law
Matthew 5:17 NKJV
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
In going to the cross
Jesus took on the spiritual suffering
of being judged for sin in our place
He became an enemy of God
so that you could be His son and daughter
the perfect work needed to stand before God
was accomplished in Jesus Christ
your job is only to believe this

rest in the finished work of Christ

the work for salvation is complete
you cant add anything to perfection
its like a in and out burger
you cant make it better so dont even try
if you try to add anything to the finished work of Jesus
to make God accept you more
that is like adding ketchup to your popcorn
it will ruin it
all of your good obedience is now an overflow of your love for Jesus
you are not trying to earn his love
His love was already displayed when He died for you..
your job is only to receive the gift
lets pray.
