20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

(Wild Abandon)

Why abandon? PT 1

What does the bible say about surrender/abandoning our flesh/selves?

What is Our Flesh?

Our flesh is what we are without Christ.
IT is what fights what God has designed for us to be and do.
It opposes what we are truly designed for.
Understanding the idea of abandoning must first come the realization that we have noting of value to redeem without Christ.
Romans 3:10–18 NLT
10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one. 11 No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. 12 All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” 13 “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.” 14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “They rush to commit murder. 16 Destruction and misery always follow them. 17 They don’t know where to find peace.” 18 “They have no fear of God at all.”
If this is who we are without christ, there is NO part of us that is good, no redeeming quality, and no hope for life.
What happens when we hold onto ANYTHING?
we put our own agenda, flawed thinking, and find a way to mess it up every time.
We are incapable of being holy ourselves
we are unable to, in our own strength, do good for ourselves or the world
even those who we see as “good” people in the world, are not truly as selfless as we might think
without Christ we tend to find a way to make everything about what makes us feel good or what benefits us
we do not have the capability to make anything good for us without Christ.
More of HIM less of US.

God’s love for us

John 3:16 NLT
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:5 NLT
5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
His ultimate sacrificial love for us, His undying sacrifice and length He went to for us inspires us to surrender ALL to Him.
The one who created us, the one who gave it all for us, knows what is best for us.
Somethin' isn't adding up This wild exchange You offer us I gave my worst, You gave Your blood Seems hard to believe You're tellin' me You chose the Cross? You're tellin' me I'm worth that much? Well, if that's the measure of Your love How else would I sing?
Jesus CHOSE the cross, He chose to endure, He chose because of His LOVE for us.

Sin VS us

What is the relation of sin to the believer?
Sin has NO place in our lives as believers.
This does not mean we will not struggle, but it should NEVER have dominion over our thoughts and hearts.
What does sin do, if it cannot reign over the believer? It lurks inside the soul like an outlaw whose banishment has not yet taken place. After the Diabolonians were overthrown in Mansoul, many of them remained hidden away in dens and corners of the city, and although diligent search was made to find them, there were always some of them hiding away in the back lanes and side streets, where they could not easily be discovered.
Sin Is Not a Reigning King but a Lurking Outlaw (Genesis 4:7; Romans 6:11–12; Galatians 5:24)
It is just so with sin. As a reigning king, sin is dead to you, and you to it. But, as a sneaking outlaw, sin is still lurking within your soul. It is plotting and planning to get back its former dominion over you, and not merely plotting and planning, but it is also warring and fighting to that end.
Sin cannot rein or have dominion over a believer, Christ and sin cannot co-exist but… due to us being imperfect and not able to be perfected, sin will try to continue to attempt to take hold on our hearts
When we let Jesus into our hearts we throw sin off of the throne of our hearts and replace it with Jesus.
with Jesus on the throne sin no longer has any authority over us.
Romans 13:14 NLT
14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
It is a choice to let sin reign over your life once again.
we have to ALLOW it to move in and take control.
only ONE can be King of our hearts, if we choose sin, we de-throne Christ.
If we chose Christ, we de-throne sin.
When we choose Jesus, we have to fight and pray daily for Him to continue to lead us and subdue sin.
we NEED to completely rely on Him, It is when we stop relying on Jesus is where sin starts to take hold of our lives again.
This is why we FULLY ABANDON- WILD ABANDON
Romans 8:12–13 (NLT)
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
Remember that we have no obligation to sin, it has NO power over us.
the world tries to tell us that it is just how we are, that it is a natural part of being human, its not wrong when speaking without Christ
There is noting farther from the truth when we have Jesus in our lives!

How do we abandon ourselves at the foot of Christ? Pt 2

What happens when we fully surrender and abandon our lives to Jesus?
What are the benefits?
Galatians 2:20 NLT
20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
Crucified with Christ
-CRUCIFIED- an ultimatum, a permanent loss
2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT
21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

What does it mean to be crucified with Christ?

When Christ died on the cross, He conquered death and sin. Being the perfect sacrifice, He took the punishment for our sin and became the atonement for us.
We were separated from God and were hopeless, unable to be apart of a perfect God.
The only way we could be with God is to be perfect, sinless and all together Holy.
The punishment for sin, is death. Without the ability to be perfect, we where eternally separated from God, doomed to an eternal separation from Him.
BUT… God sent HIS ONLY SON to take our place, being perfect and sinless, He sacrificed Himself to take our place and pay for our sin with His life.
Making us pure and sinless in the sight of God if we only accept this gift.
Raising from the dead officially conquered sin for good, assuring our salvation and ability to be with God forever!
THEREFORE…
When we are sacrificed with Christ we take part in the benefit of His sacrifice, sin no longer has a hold on our lives and we are able to be free!
Again- permanence, forever free, our old self forever dead.
His sacrifice has given me freedom to fight in opposition to the enemy.
The one who was able to subdue sin and never gave into its temptation, now is in our hearts guiding us and helping us in this fight.
Him being the only one who ever was able to conquer it, now helps us to the same.
If we have truly been crucified with Christ we automatically develop a desire to abandon the old and strive to be more like Christ, being that He is in us.
Abandon to God is of more value than personal holiness.
Oswald Chambers (Lecturer and Missionary)
There is nothing we can do on our own without Christ.
