There is a spiritual war taking place all the time. Holiness and all things to do with God v Wickedness and all things to do with the Devil.

Galatians 5:16–26 ESV

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Team Satan: Walking in Wickedness

People are born with a sin nature. It is normal to walk in wickedness, because everyone does it.

Galatians 5:19–21 ESV

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

People who live in sin do not go to heaven. Because they are literally on the opposing team. Activly dong all the things that are opposite of God.

Romans 3:23 ESV

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

nobody has to enlist into Satan’s army, because we are born into it and slaves to it apart from Christ.

Romans 6:23 ESV

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But God didn’t let the story end with our doom.

Jesus changes everything

He makes it possible for us to change teams. Only by putting our faith in Jesus do we have hope.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 ESV

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

Romans 5:8 ESV

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

When Jesus died on the cross he paid the price for our sins that we owe. We can’t be good enough to get into heaven, because we are sinners. In the same way that it doesn’t matter how nice a murderer is to everyone else. Or even how guilty he feels about what he did he can’t undo it.

Jesus’ death makes us new. He undoes it, paying that price to set us free, our job is to believe in him and put our faith, or trust in his completed work of salvation.

Acts 16:31 ESV

And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

John 3:16 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Team Jesus: Walk in the Spirit

Galatians 5:22–24 ESV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Salvation comes only by faith, but it brings repentance and a changing in our actions. So if you’ve put your faith in Jesus there should be some evidence to that through your life.
