Our God, our King

Our God VIII
We are almost at the end our series on the book of Psalms
The book of psalms expresses worship. Psalms encourages people to worship God for who He is, and for what he has done, is filled with songs and poetry, but is also a prophetic book.
Is the longest book in the bible with 150 chapters, with the longest chapter, psalm 119 with 176 verses, and the shorter chapter in the bible 117 that has 2 verses.
The book of psalms is often referred as a book of King David psalms, just to be clear there are seven authors identified in the book of psalms, King David wrote most of them, David, 73; Asaph, 12; sons of Korah, 9; Solomon, 2; Heman, 1; Ethan, 1; Moses, 1; and anonymous, 51 the 48 of them who we cannot credit to anyone they are called orphan Psalms.
Our God our King
Today we are going to read psalms 145
This is a monumental praise psalm, a summary of all David had learned about God during his life time, a life of following God the Almighty, King David was 70 years old when he died.
Psalms 145 this wonderful psalms is the last psalm attributed to David a great contribution to the book of psalms
(Willem VanGemeren the old testament professor ) in his commentary wrote about psalm 145
In the Jewish practice this psalm was recited twice in the morning and once in the evening service. The Talmud commends all who repeat it three times a day as having a share in the world to come.
Let’s pray

1 A King worthy of our praises

Psa 145:1 A Song of Praise. Of David. I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.
Psa 145:2 Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Psa 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
To extol is to praise, to lift on High
David recognizes God as His King David understood that whatever title he had was inferior To God his King.
In our society today especially here in the US we cannot relate to a King, and we don’t belong to a kingdom, this has to come to us through revelation.
God’s plan for us was never to have a human being as our king, He chose king Saul because the people wanted a king, like the other people around them, and He warned them of the consequences of having a king over them, they own you and everything you have. Theocracy was the government God had in mind for us, He Jehovah would guide us, protect us, provide and heal us.
Now we have come to the place where we rejected all kings, individually and as a nation and we have crowned ourselves as kings, and we have our own kingdoms.
God in His great love for us send us a perfect and loving King and invited us to enter His kingdom, the only Kingdom who will last forever, Is Jesus your King and Lord?
My prayer is that you ask for this awesome revelation to become part of your life today
Psa 145:4 One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.
David look for us to encourage each other, for one generation to the next
Charles Spurgeon said this (the famous English Baptist preacher)
“The generations shall herein unite: together they shall make up an extraordinary history. Each generation shall contribute its chapter, and all the generations together shall compose a volume of matchless character.” Charles Spurgeon
Psa 145:5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
Psa 145:6 They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.
Psa 145:7 They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
“It seems, then , dear friends, that David studied the character and doings of God , and thus praised him; Knowledge should lead our song . The more we know God the more acceptably shall we bless him through Jesus Christ.” (Charles Spurgeon)
Is not all about feelings,
We need to continually praise Him for who He is, and for what he has done.

2 A gracious and compassionate King

Psa 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The same God who reveals Himself to Moses,
This exodus 34:6
Exo 34:6 The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
David expressed the same revelation
Over 200 years ago George Horne wrote on his commentary of this verse
Bishop, George Horne (1 November 1730 – 17 January 1792) was an English churchman, academic, writer, and university administrator.
“the original word for his tender mercies,…signifies the ’womb’ The mercies of God towards men are, therefore, represented by this word, to be like those of a mother towards the child of her womb’.(George Horne)
The Hebrew word is Racham, Rakh’-am
If you have ever seen a mother caring for her fetus or her infant
Psa 145:9 The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
Psa 145:9 The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works [the entirety of things created].
There is something called common Grace among the Theologians , David saw it and called it
Jesus said this
Mat 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Mat 5:45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
The grace of God over everyone, including all His creation, the birds in the air the fish in he sea, animals, plants, trees and rivers, .
Psa 145:10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you!
Psa 145:11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power,
Psa 145:12 to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Psa 145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The LORD is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.]
God’s Kingdom is the only kingdom that will last forever, with a perfect loving King.

3 A King who will not abandon us.

Psa 145:14 The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.
Our King will not abandon us during our failures or when we are down, He restore us and He lift up our heads.
Psa 145:15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season.
Psa 145:16 You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Psa 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.
Psa 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Psa 145:19 He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
Psa 145:20 The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
Psa 145:21 My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
We need to acknowledge all the works of the Lord around us, small and big, we don’t want miss that’s how He shows His love for us.
Jesus teaching us how to pray he taught us to ask for our daily bread
Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread,
If you are eating your meals everyday your Heavenly Father is the provider, answering your prayers.
His kindness, His presence, the fulfilment of your desires
We need to praise Him for all His work and appreciate His presence over us.
Our God, Our King
A Gracious and compassionate King
A King who is good to all
A King who helps us
Have you invited Jesus to be your Lord and King?
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Joh 3:16
To receive Jesus we need to accept Him as God’s son, repent from our sins and a life of selfishness, and we need to ask Him to be our Lord and savior, not that we deserve it, but is a gift from God.
If this is your desire today, please repeat this prayer after me?
Heavenly Father I’m sinner,
I’m sorry for my sins,
I’m willing to turn away from my sins.
I receive Christ as my savior,
I confess him as Lord
from this moment on
I want to follow and serve him,
in the fellowship of his church,
In Jesus name. Amen!
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke itand said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks thiscup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Heb 9:14 dead works, acts, sins
E mau aku ka loko maika’i o ka Haku, Iesu Kristo; me ke aloha a ke Akua, a me ka launa pu ‘ana mai o ka Uhane Hemolele ia ‘olua, a me makou apau. Amene.
