I. The Trap. vs.34-35

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

2 Timothy 2:24-26.

“surfeiting” - The act of feeding to excess; gluttony.

“drunkenness” - Disorder of the faculties from and resembling intoxication by liquors

“cares of this life” - Luke 8:14. Unfruitful

II. The Turn. v.36

What to do. v.36a

36 Watch ye therefore,

While you do it. v.36b

and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

The lost stand for sin now but bow to Christ later (Psalm 1:5; Philippians 2:10-11)

The saved stand against sin now (Ephesians 6:13) and will stand before the Saviour later. V.36b

III. The Teacher. vs.37-38

He taught in the day and prayed all night. v.37 (Luke 22:39)

37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.

They listened in the day. v.38

38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
