Before the Beginning Began

Once upon a time… The phrase that is used to start fairy tales. It honestly gives you zero information as to when the story supposedly took place. Because lets be real if there was a Snow White, then she probably didn’t wake up after eating the poisioned apple. True love doesn’t fix poision. She dead.
The Bible however is not a fairy tale. It is a record of History. There are people whom we can put in time and place. Events that are recorded outside the Bible that prove it as reality. But the difference between the Bible and your history textbook in school is that it is an autobiography. The Bible is God’s record of history, it’s His-Story.
Every Story has a begining. Who wants to guess where the begining of His-Story is located?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
The story doesn’t begin with the creation of the Heavens or Earth, it begins with God!
1. JESUS (THE WORD) HAS ALWAYS EXISTED
1. JESUS (THE WORD) HAS ALWAYS EXISTED
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit have always existed. In these verses John is talking about Jesus by using one of his names, “THE WORD” so you can say Jesus has no begining, no creator, and no equal. Its hard for us to wrap our heads around because we are creatures bound in both time and space. I cannot be here with you guys tonight and also on the beach at the same time. God however can, because he isn’t bound in time or space. He is “omnipresent” which is the big churchy word meaning “He is everywhere all the time.”
But its hard to understand the concept of him always existing without realizing our second main point.
2. JESUS IS THE UNMADE MAKER
2. JESUS IS THE UNMADE MAKER
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Have you ever looked up into the nights sky and been amazed by the beauty of the stars? or a sunset? The creation tells us about the creator.
Psalm 19:1–2 (ESV)
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
One of the questions I hear from students is, “where did God come from?” and the answer is He didn’t come from anywhere. Rather everywhere came from God.

3. JESUS MADE YOU FOR A SPECIFIC TIME AND PLACE IN HISTORY
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
God is working out his story. He begain it at creation, He carried it through Abraham, David, John the Baptist mentioned in this chapter. His story reaches the climax with Jesus death on the cross and ressurection from the grave. And it continues to this day with you sitting in this room, because he is still making people into Children of God through faith in Jesus. If you havn’t put your faith in him yet, talk to us tonight so you can join him in his story.
But before you go to small group discussion I have a quick activity for you.
Please take a white piece of paper and some color pencils. Your job is to as a group create an invention using your color to solve your problem during your season.
