1 Relationship with God
Hew two tablets of stone.
Exodus 34:1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke.
Remember the altar no hewn stone, that was about salvation and the cross there is no good work you can do to save yourself
The law is about hewn stone, it is about what you can do. You want to know the bad news, we all fall short
Present yourself to God.
Exodus 34:2–3 So be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain. And no man shall come up with you, and let no man be seen throughout all the mountain; let neither flocks nor herds feed before that mountain.”
God wanted moses to come to Him without distraction in the morning. God wants the same from you. You need time with God without distraction. I find that to be the morning. Turn off the music. don’t let the animal in the room. TV off away from the kids and spend time with God.
We need to get to know the God who rides on clouds.
Exodus 34:5 Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.
Our Savior is the cloud rider, His name is wonderful. He is high and exalted there is power in His name
As I said in an email a couple of months ago on over 10 occasions in the scripture our God rides on clouds, his ascension, rapture and 2nd coming it’s how he approaches to defeat the beast
2) 7 Attributes of God
Exodus 34:6–7 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”
Did you catch them all?
1 Mercy - God sparing us from what we deserve.
Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
2 Grace - God giving us what we don’t deserve.
Ephesians 2:5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
3 Long-suffering - the patient sovereignty of God
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
4 Abundant in goodness - God is good, all the time
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
5 Truth - God is the truth, in Him there is no deceit.
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
6 Righteous - God’s judgments are perfect and holy.
Revelation 19:2 For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”
All our righteousness is filthy rags we are clothed in the righteousness of God
7 Forgiveness - The ability to completely absolve our sins.
Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
God attributes should drive us to worship.
Exodus 34:8 So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.
The Benefits of Israel’s redemption
Exodus 34:9–10 Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.” And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
I am not going to make a list because these aren’t your benefit’s they are Israel’s some over lap some don’t translate. We have more than they do. grace(merited favor) Moses Prayer (not personal prayer) Pardon for sin, Inheritance in Canaan (our’s is in heaven) covenant (we have a new covenant) I will do marvels (Greater works than these I will do)
3) Relationship with the enemy
The enemy will see the work of God.
Joshua 2:9 and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you.
Rahab did and God’s work that the Canaanites saw was terrible and remember they were giants remember they are going to conquer the canaanites Jericho, and Og of Bashan
6 tribes of the enemy will be conquered.
Exodus 34:11 Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
6 is the number of a man, not the devil’s number. The meaning there comes straight from the book of Revelation the famous 666 says that is the number of a man Revelation 13.18 says so
Avoid the snares of the world.
Exodus 34:12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst.
Destroy evil altars and perversion in your life.
Exodus 34:13 But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images
Wooden images - KJV translates it groves. The word is Asherah the pagan goddess of love this was probably more than just a grove of tree there is a different word for that this may have been in the woods but hear me out this was the perverted idolatry of jezebel
God’s name is jealous.
Exodus 34:14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),
Every translation that tries, translates this verse similar. God’s name is jealous. He is jealous because He is the only one who deserves His name to be worshipped. I like Michael Jordan as a kid he was my favorite basketball player but it makes me sick when I hear him called black Jesus The beattles said they were more popular than Jesus. Makes me sick. People who call politicians our Savior makes me sick. That place is reserved only for Jesus. Jesus Jesus Jesus there is just something about that name
Don’t commit spiritual adultery.
Exodus 34:15–17 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice, and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods. “You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.
Spiritual adultery is a big deal. Books of the Bible are written on the subject. I believe that sport is not bad. But a sport’s team can become an idol. I believe that a job isn’t bad but it can become an idol. God is so good I can’t explain it. But we commit spiritual adultery often
Gambling can be spiritual adultery some people have shrines to their favorite sports team. Do you have a shrine to Jesus? You shouldn’t verse 17 but if He doesn’t get a shrine neither do the Yankees.
4) Relationship with others
Moses fasted and prayed for 40 days.
Exodus 34:28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
I don’t know if he was fasting and praying for the people but I believe that was part of it. Some people have said to me. I have done everything and nothing works. I prayed I did I tried to talk to them. I have asked have you fasted and prayed for 40 days? No well than you haven’t done everything. That’s cold but its the truth. I haven’t fasted in a long time. Maybe I need to!
Moses’ face reflected the glory of God.
Exodus 34:29 Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him.
How does your face look when you are before God?
The people were afraid of Moses.
Exodus 34:30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
I don’t want people to be afraid of me but… Maybe that’s a good thing to an extent. Are they afraid to swear around you, to not drink around you, or especially to take God’s name in vain.
Moses shared God’s word with the people.
Exodus 34:31–32 Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses talked with them. Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them as commandments all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
Moses could only be his genuine self in God’s presence.
Exodus 34:33–34 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take the veil off until he came out; and he would come out and speak to the children of Israel whatever he had been commanded.
I am not saying we lie to the world, no but you should feel most comfortable with the LORD. In His presence.
The people saw God’s glory in Moses face.
Exodus 34:35 And whenever the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone, then Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.
What do people see in your face?
